This is the worst 5 star hotel i have ever check in. After landing from mid night flight . When i check in the hotel. They gave us a room in which the Aircon doesn’t work.

Pretty good location and walking distance to stores and shopping streets. Service is great, but rooms dated and restaurant cleanliness could use improvement. Some rooms also had smoke smell, so had to switch rooms.

Customer Service Really Failed
When you stay at a place, the location, overall rating, and cleanliness definitely matter. But what leaves the lasting impression and creates returning customers is the service. This is where the Kunming Crowne Plaza failed. It's the little things that occurred that seemed to be incessantly bothersome. The maid seemed to come into the room multiple times per day and shut off the power. The writing on the light switches was rubbed off so you never had any idea how to turn on or off the lights. I ended up just keeping them all off because it was never clear which switch did what. I did laundry while I was there, and it came back smelling (and I kid you not) gasoline! I literally had to keep my "clean" laundry in the hall because it fumigated my entire room. In the Crowne Plaza's defense, they did submit my laundry to be cleaned again that same day, but this was beginning at 7:00pm now. Thus, it came back to me at midnight--when I was sleeping. Also a disruption. And then, it smelled exactly the same. I kept it in the laundry bags, rolled it up into a ball and put it in the plastic laundry bag in the room. I'll deal with it when I get home. And they only offered a 10% discount instead of waiving the charge. Then they took it upon themselves to wake me up by repeatedly knocking on the door until I woke up, got out of bed, and answered the door. I did not request this and found it very intrusive.

Dear guest: We are very sorry to bring you a very unpleasant experience. We have asked the information of the HSKP, the staff took the room' card after cleaning your room in order to save the energy. We are going to strength the training of staffs to avoid those issues. And for the laundry service, the bank near us was redecorating, and the smell of the oil paint was extremely awful which affected the clothes. We feel so sorry to all those bad things, and the solution, improvement will be done. We ensure those things won't happen again.

Great location and comfortable room. The only downside was there was a hint of the smell of smoke in the room and the air conditioner didn’t work well. The concierge didn’t speak English and wasn’t able to help me with travel planning, but the staff were friendly and otherwise helpful.

The rooms were great, location also. The hotel was recently taken over by crown plaza management and as a cost cutting thing they closed the pool. They advertise having one and the staff has a list of pre made excuses, its too cold, rebuilding, not the season,... I was there in July and it was pool season. So they pay for your taxi ride to the holiday inn a few blocks away that is also managed by them. But a cab ride to and from the pool is way more hassle than the pool they advertise they have. They make up all kind of excuses and I m pretty sure it will never open again, they obviously want to keep it in the list of anemities, pay a cab ride to customers that insist on swimming and send them to their other properties pool.

The hotel always insists on providing the most comfortable accommodation experience for customers, and will never close the swimming pool for cost saving. This is very silly and actually does no good to the hotel. As you can feel the weather in Yunnan during the rainy season, the outdoor swimming pool provided by the hotel cannot be opened normally during the rainy season to ensure the health of guests. However, as you can see, in order to guarantee the needs of the guests, the hotel provides the right to use the indoor swimming pool of another hotel for free and reimburses the travelling fare of the guests. By the way, another hotel is only 5 minutes away from us, very convenient! We are trying to ensure a good experience for our guests. It is very sad to see that our compensation measures let you have a deeper misunderstanding. I hope my explanation can let you know our sincerity. Thank you again for your kindness to our holiday . By Chinese standards, this place was opulent and fantastic. Our Chinese friends were astonished that we could afford such a place as they said this place would be considered posh by average Chinese standards but the price we paid was considered very reasonable. A place of this magnitude in a major North American city would have been twice the price so it was a real deal to stay here. The air conditioning needed to be tweaked and given the fact it was so muggy and humid we really appreciated the fact that we were able to get the air conditioning fixed. The staff were helpful in arranging taxis for us and answering our questions. We were given a free room upgrade as our daughter had joined us for the stay in this hotel. The location was perfect for all of our tourist needs. I really liked how we could go out on the balcony and watch the goings on of the streets below. We would stay in this hotel again.

The hotel itself is not bad, rooms are comfortable and the service is decent. However the location is such that it is not easy to see many attractions. The breakfast buffet is good. A walking street where there are plenty of restaurants and stores is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

Room and staff were excellent. Smoking was tolerated in some of the public areas, including the 4th floor Chinese restaurant. A number of people were smoking there constantly, which made being in the room intolerable. Otherwise, a well-kept and lovely typically deluxe hotel, though utterly without any local charm. That said, we would stay there again, just never eat in the hotel.

Short business trip to Guangzhou
The hotel is excellent from many aspects, the only draw back is the slow check-in and check-out. Most probably you will spend 20-25 minutes if there are five or six guests checking in! I would strongly recommend the hotel to review the check in & out to ensure smooth and effficenet process to guests.

Hi, The hotel was okay. The person who helped us her English was not great. She tried hard to be helpful. We requested lower floor. Which was given after some discussion. However, two things: 1) Mosquitoes. Yes, there are mosquitoes in this hotel. 2) There is large construction going just behind the hotel and it would disturb your sleep. We were for a night only. So no major issue except for mosquitoes. Hotel and room.bathroom was clean.

The check in was horrible. There was a communication error between the Crowne Plaza and Hotel.com, as I was told by the font desk lady that only one of my 2 reservations was in their system. I've made full payment to my 2 reservations and after several attempts, she still couldn't locate it. Instead of offering to resolve the issue, she asked me to call Hotel.com directly to solve it for them. There were several other staff standing, idling, talking and laughing behind this lady, and no one seems interested to offer help to resolve my problem. Why would this become my personal problem? Why would I need to call, which could cost me a bomb as I don't have Hotel.com China number, to resolve a problem not caused by me? To infuriate me further, I was told by the concierge that I need to pay RMB10 for a local map. The map that's supposed to help a hotel guest is chargeable. This is a shock to me as I have never encountered such incident before at an international chain hotel. This is utterly unacceptable. Hence I demanded to see the manager. The moment I demanded to see the manager, magic happened. The senior staff that was talking and laughing behind suddenly stepped in and offered drink vouchers to us, after 45 minutes of standing, to sit and wait at the lounge while they resolve the issues. For the 1st time, they offered to solve the problem for me. I finally realised this is the kind of hospitality Crowne Plaza Kunming is offering. Lousy service, at best.

Very helpful staff and a wonderful hotel
The staff are extremely friendly, especially a lady at the front desk named Ada, who recognised me from a previous visit and warmly greeted me - then immediately offered me some fruit. The breakfast has a very wide range of items on the menu, all very good, and the room is in excellent condition. All in all it is a great place to stay.

One of many hotels in Kunming
I have stayed in three other hotels in Kunming. Each seems to have been in the process of rebuilding when I make my reservation. I chose this hotel because of its location, which worked well for me. Staff tried to be helpful. Hotel computer didn't work 5 out of 6 days unless connected to the internet by a cellphone. Accommodations were fine. The restaurants in the hotel seemed pricey so didn't eat in them. The lobby lounge served a very good cup of cappuccino for 50 RMB.

I made 6 night reservation in this hotel. Due to our flight delay, I had to cancel the first night. We ended up arriving in the hotel at 6 am and had to wait in the lobby area until 10 am to get a room. But, the hotel gave us free breakfast buffet for 3 of us (my husband, me and my 11 years-old son) this morning, and upgraded our room to Executive Suite. So, we had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. The breakfast buffet had a wide range of selection--even though there were hardly meats served (in addition to bacon and sausages). The staffs were very nice and helpful. The hotel was near a walking shopping district and a street of restaurants. There were bus stops outside the hotel. But, it's easier to get around by taxi in Kunming. The only bad experience was with the hotel concierge. The concierge convinced me to rent a texi associated with the hotel for a day (from 10 am to 6 pm) to go to the Yunnan Ethnic Village, the Yunnan Ethnic Village, Lake Dian and Xishan (West Mountain). We ended up only going through the Village and the next door Museum--even though he guaranteed that there will be enough time. We got a taxi on the street to go to Xishan and Lake Dian later, and found out that we had paid 7 times more money to have a taxi wait an afternoon outside the Village to take us back to hotel that day. But, this is China, what you can say?
