Tolles Ryokan mit großem BadPosted Nov 2, 2015
Pros: Das "Onsen"

Fantastic experience!Posted Oct 27, 2015
Spent one night here while visiting Kyoto and what a wonderful experience it was?! Staff were super polite and kind while the room was clinically clean with everything you would need in a traditionally styled room. It takes getting used to but overall it's a fantastic experience! I was sad leaving the next morning!

Beautiful ryokan, great locationPosted Oct 16, 2015
The staff at this hotel were not very friendly and they bordered on rude. They spoke good English but they were so rude I would rather they spoke only Japanese. Sad because the hotel was beautiful. We were greeted pleasantly but it went downhill from there. We had booked a room for 3 but our daughter was unable to join us. When asked by the staff when our 3rd person would arrive we told them she was not coming. The manager said, "well, that is okay but you will not get a refund!" I explained that I did not expect or want a refund. We asked about dinner reservations and the same staff member told us to decide right now because they needed time to prepare. We decided to go out to a different restaurant. Upon our return, we were told to pay before 9 pm if we intended to use anything from the mini bar. We agreed. A few minutes later we turned around to see a staff member following us to our room. She explained that they had entered our room and saw that we drank 2 beers. We said, yes, we had and that we would pay before 9. She then asked us to pay now so we paid her right there in the hallway. We were then hounded again in the morning to pay for any mini bar purchases. We had not used anything else from the mini bar although we might have had some sake before bed if we hadn't been hounded. The room and bath area was filled with lists of rules and "do nots." The experience did not create a relaxed, pleasant stay that we should have had. I would probably not return to this ryokan.

Posted Aug 17, 2015 on Hotels

Pacote com jantarPosted Jun 22, 2015 on Hotels

Posted Jun 11, 2015 on Hotels

Beautiful Hotel at Great LocationPosted Jun 5, 2015
This is a traditional Japanese ryokan that offers traditional experience with comfort. The room is spacious and they serve the beautiful delicious meals in the room. The staff is super friendly. It's right next to a shrine and there are many shops nearby. I would totally stay there again!

Traditional Elegance at its BestPosted May 25, 2015
Pros: The elegance, service and hospitality.
Location: This is well located in the Gion district, where one can find Geishas and a magnificent shrine, many shops for souvenirs and some fine restaurants.
Perfectly located in Kyoto's Gion district, Gion Hatanaka was the epitome of luxurious pampering - Japanese style. The kimono-clad staff was attentive to our every need and made us feel welcome. The hostess who served us (literally) throughout our one-night stay explained the protocol of shoes off and slippers vs toilet slippers, the lounging yukata and robe we were to wear, each course of the elegantly served dinner and subsequent breakfast, and the futons we slept on. Although some of the multitude of dishes served at each meal did not appeal to our Western taste, we were so impressed by the presentation (fresh flower garnishes and exquisite dishes of porcelain and crystal) and the highest quality of the various fish and other foods we DID enjoy. This was a once in a lifetime experience which was a definite high point of our trip to Japan.
