Good choice overall.

Posted Jan 20, 2017
Cons: The bar area never seemed to have anything going on and also never saw any action in the restaurant.
Bus and subway convenient, but takes some study to figure it out. Hotel provides lots of maps but be cautioned that many are not to scale. A temple or shrine may look close to the bus but may be quite a distance. Maps often not to scale. The Japanese description of beds is different from ours. The room was described as two twins which would be two quite small beds. But it was actually two full size put together which made one enormous bed. No big deal but ask. Close to Nishigi market for fun and high end shopping if that is your desire. Area just east of the hotel has numerous little alleys that have 10 or more neat little dining spots every block. Way fun to just go hunting. While not really adjacent to historical sights it is centrally located for many.

Very good hotel in central Kyoto

Posted Jan 5, 2017
Pros: If you choose the 'eco style' of making the room up in the morning, you will get free bottles of water.
Location: Arriving at Kyoto station you can either take the subway for a couple of stops, or a taxi (it’s about 900-1100 Yen depending on traffic). Central.
Arriving at Kyoto station you can either take the subway for a couple of stops, or a taxi (it’s about 900-1100 Yen depending on traffic). The hotel is on a central way, in the city center. You have the subway at your doorstep too. A possible downside of being so central is that prices of nearby restaurants also reflect that. Between the hotel and Gion however, you will find many more eateries at a better price (being central Kyoto there is only so much cheap you can go). The hotel staff is very friendly, the room was comfortable, Wi-Fi throughout, with all amenities, and with an empty fridge for your food and drink shopping. This is very important as you will discover that many people, Japanese included, use the various Family Mart and similar shops for their lunch and dinner. After two weeks of eating out (like we did) you may need to save some money or simply fancy eating in, so these places are perfect. The room also had a kettle for those meals that need it. The TV only had CNN, but we were able to access Netflix through our laptops, so it wasn’t too bad. There is also a spa with onsen for an extra charge. Overall a very good hotel.

Experience at Hotel Monterey Kyoto

Posted Dec 28, 2016
Pros: Friendly staff. The room was really clean and well maintained. It was also very near to a subway station and about 15 min away from Kyoto Train statio
Location: The hotel is quite central. It is close to Karasuma Oike subway station.Nishiki Market is just minutes away with thshopping district not too far away.
Although we reached the hotel past midnite, we were greeted by a friendly staff at the front desk. The checking in & out were smooth. Pleasant experience and would stay there again the next time.

Good room, central location, bad for an infant

Posted Nov 30, 2016
Pros: Service, cleaniness
Cons: Space for families. Our child had no where to play.
Location: Awesome, cannot be beat
This is a great hotel to jump on any train or bus to an outing but is far too small for an infant that is just high enough to pull everything down on a table. Expensive for what you get but we found it very accomidating for a short term stay.

Pros: Locations
Cons: Small room for triple beds
Location: Location is within walking distance to nearby shopping area
Room is small but Japan standard. Booked for triple room, and beds are comfortable. Breakfast quite nice and lots of variations.

Nice hotel and nice stuff

Posted Oct 17, 2016
Pros: Facilities
Cons: Air conditioning system
Location: Ni jio castle
We stayed at Hotel Monterey Kyoto for 4 nights during our recent Japan trip. I am very glad that I picked this hotel. The hotel facility is pretty nice (except the AC is a little noisy) and the location is within walking distance to subway and bus stations. The Hotel stuff speaks english very well and very patiently help us make reservations for resterauts.
