Nice hotel but far from tourist action.

Posted May 9, 2016 on Hotels
Stayed 2 nights.Far from Kyoto center. Has limited shuttle service to neighborhood train station (about 2 km.). If you are just interested in spa facilities a very good place to stay otherwise for tourist interests stay closer to Kyoto for the same price.

Families beware!

Posted Apr 20, 2016
Pros: The lobby and entrance.
Cons: Ensure the website information included restrictions due to age (e.g. Pool entrance)
Location: It's a long walk to the closest JR. station (around 30 minutes) then 30 minutes to kyoto. Not the best base to visit Kyoto from.
Beautiful grounds, lovely room great service BUT if your little boy loves a pool as much as ours... Don't stay here! The indoor pool is for adults only, the outdoors pool only open during summer.

I forgot what a nice hotel felt like

Posted Apr 19, 2016
I came to this hotel with low expectations and was blown away by how beautiful and clean it was. I came in late, but the staff were quite helpful. Parking was easy and convenient too. Breakfast was amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I'll be staying here again.

Beautiful hotel next to Lake Biwa

Posted Apr 15, 2016
Pros: Gorgeous lobby and very helpful staff. Clean and large rooms!
Location: Free shuttle to and from Ishiyama station. Lots of interesting places around the lake and a short train ride to Kyoto.
What a wonderfully charming hotel. Though it seems like an older building, the quality of service stands out as well as well as the room cleanliness and comfort. It's a bit of a ways away from the nearest train station, which is Ishiyama (accessible using your JR Pass) but there's a free shuttle that runs on the hour until 9PM. We had a large group and got upgraded to a 4-person suite, which was huge (by Japanese hotel standards...normal for Western standards). The suite itself was fantastic and very clean with a view over its English-style courtyard. There's a fitness gym, pool and studio but unfortunately they aren't free. Note that most Japanese hotels typically don't provide gyms. However, it's a nice short train ride away from Kyoto and there are plenty of interesting spots around Lake Biwa if you're really looking to get some walking exercise in! The staff's great as well. This hotel seems to get a fair number of foreign tourists and there are English speaking staff on site. Overall, I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for an alternative to staying in (rather expensive) Kyoto.

Pleasurable and relaxing stay

This is a great place to hold a wedding as the views are fantastic and food is tasty. They accommodate dog sitting at the hotel. It is a little out of Kyoto but they have a shuttle bus service which operates every hour. Could not fault this hotel.

We're not coming back

Posted Apr 1, 2016 on Hotels
The hotel is more a wedding chapel that takes hotel guests. The staff is not very helpful, for instance: you can borrow a wifi router to use with the wired network, but asking for wifi is not enough; you must use the exact word "Wireless router" otherwise they just say "No". The hotel is located far from Kyoto. You have to use taxi to the railway station and then the train to get to Kyoto. It takes about 30 minutes each way. The hotel have a bus shuttle to drive from the hotel to the train, but if the bus is full you have to wait for another hour for the next one. This happened to us, and when we asked if they could just drive 2 times: "No". So you risk using 40US$ per day just to get into Kyoto. The hotel has several restaurants on the premises, but they are very expensive and although the food is ok, the quality of the food is far from the price. And be advised that they close at 9 PM. Then there are the gardens that are surrounded by the 5 story hotel and mostly just grass. So all in all we regretted a lot to go there.

A little out of the way but worth it

Posted Jan 15, 2016
Pros: Shuttle service, room size and staff.
Location: The authentic Japanese food stops o Li a 10 min walk are worth it.
Very nice though a little dated, rooms outstanding in size and comfort. Hotel staff very helpful and they free shuttle service to the closest JR Line rail station more than compensates for the distance from Kyoto. A little gem for those that want to save some money but not scrimp on comfort and ammenities.

Quite dated and too expensive.

Posted Dec 4, 2015
Expensive in all ways. Had 1 glass of wine and one cocktail drink cost $35 Can. Seems because they don't have as many guests they really over charge those they have. Having to shuttle from hotel to train to get to Kyoto was not best scenario. Unfortunately can't recommend this hotel.
