Beautiful hotel at the base of volcano

Posted Jan 11, 2018
Location: Great excursions available through the hotel. We booked a 4 wheeler tour and had an excellent time! The springs are also very close to the hotel.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we had a great time. The staff was very nice and helpful and the food was delicious. The rooms were very clean with the exception of mold and mildew near the ceiling in the bathroom. This is probably inevitable due to the bathroom ventilation and climate, but it was still disappointing to see it and know what we were breathing in. It was incredible to wake up and walk outside and see nothing but mountain views and the Arenal volcano. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Wonderful location and setting!

Posted Jan 3, 2018
Pros: Location and setting.
Location: We recommend the Pure Trek waterfall repelling it was awesome.
The grounds were beautiful and the little cottages very clean and roomy. The floors did squeek a lot but it was not a problem. The pool area, breakfast included and restaurant were all top notch. We were close to all the activities we wanted to do and the staff was very accomidating to our needs on several occations.

False Advertising on Expedia

Posted Dec 16, 2017
Pros: Cute restaurant, right at foot of Arenal volcano, beautiful views, walks through forest, quiet bungalows, near town and tours, hot-tub and pool.
Cons: That row of six rooms!
Location: Location in countryside, on volcano, yet Fortuna is 10 minutes away, $6 cab. Tour vans pick up for all tours. Hotel staff help schedule the tours.
Our experience was good only because we upgraded our room. The Expedia deal turned out to be for a room in a row of six small, dilapidated, poorly furnished and not very clean rooms at the entrance of the grounds. Small print on the Expedia reservation revealed "Economy Room, 1 Queen Bed, Terrace." These rooms are not shown or included on the hotel website, so we were shocked to be ushered into a tiny room filled with queen bed and single bed, no room to turn around in or open bags, and a bathroom that could not be smaller, nowhere to put toiletries, hair dryer missing, dead bugs on floor, old bedspread, walkway that was not lit. Fortunately, they had a regular room and did not charge us full rate for it, so that helped and we liked every other aspect of the hotel. We saw later that the hotel renovated one of these economy rooms, and the extra bed was removed and had new furnishings and linens. That may be worth it for people on a tight budget.

Nice getaway from stress

Posted Dec 16, 2017
We enjoyed our stay at Lomas. It was restful and we enjoyed the sounds of the birds, monkeys and geckos all around us. The natural wildlife was lively and the grounds are kept in beautiful condition. The distance from town and the highway was both excellent and tiring. It was peaceful but after a few days, started costing a lot of money to get around the area. Individual cabins were nice to have. A suggestion would be to add a lounge chair or hammock to the cabin decks. Also dealing with the gaps at the tops and bottoms of the doors would have been nice to avoid the amount of small animals you envision coming in your room. Overall I would recommend this hotel to couples and older people wanting to get away from hustle and bustle. But had we brought our 18-22 year old children, they would not have liked being so far away from everything.

Price for "children"

Posted Dec 14, 2017
An overall enjoyable stay, however, the hotel considers any child aged 10+ to be an adult and you have to pay the adult price for them. Expedia sold us the room at one price, and when I told the hotel that my kids were teenagers, the reception desk person said that teens were adults, and charged me another $25/night per young adult. It was not a nice way to start our stay there! The hotel needs to tell Expedia that they consider 10+ kids to be adults, so that Expedia charges accordingly, and unsuspecting customers know what to expect.

Planning our next visit!

Posted Oct 21, 2017 on Hotels
We absolutely loved our stay at Lomas del Volcan. We were instantly upgraded from the regular room to the bungalow houses and it was wonderful having our own little place. In the morning you can see the volcano perfectly from the hotel grounds and their breakfast buffet was awesome. Everyone is really attentive and helpful and we would definitely come back again!

Beautiful hotel.

Polite attentive staff. Well maintained grounds. Jonathan at the hotel reception was amazing! The dining staff and bartenders were equally professional and friendly. My wife and I will stay here again on our next trip to the La Fortuna area. The only negative was the rooms are very dark inside. I realize this is beyond the hotels control. Comfortable beds, clean rooms and an awesome staff.
