No marriott rewards upgrades

The woman wouldn't upgrade us (Gold-elite member), which is fine but I didn't agree with the reason she gave us. The parking lot didn't have any cars in it and she said the hotel was full. Not a big deal, but that was just the first time I was ever declined an upgrade, and I paid cash for the room so it wasn't like I was using my points for a free room.
