Absent Desk Clerk

Pros: The room was fine.
Cons: Breakfast had a large selection of items -- but they were all sugar/starch with the exception of a few pieces of fruit, and, of course, coffee.
I arrived at 5:45 p.m. on a Sunday night. Not an unusual time to check into a motel, right? There was no one at the desk. There was a sign to ring the bell for assistance. (Ironically, there was a large digital clock hanging next to the bell!) No response. I rang and rang several times with no result. The bell was working because I could hear it in another room. After 20 minutes, another couple came to check in. I filled them in on the situation. They had the idea to phone the motel. The desk clerk answered and came to the desk to check us in. As I was bringing in my luggage, I asked him why he hadn't answered the bell. He said that he was in another part of the motel. In the preliminary Expedia "how was check-in" survey, I mentioned that the clerk was absent. The motel manager responded to me that the clerk has other responsibilities besides being at the desk. Well, I think that his first responsibility should be at the desk -- with an absent clerk, there's no telling how many potential customers (and potential $$$) walk in, then walk out. (Maybe they should install cameras to find out for sure?) I would have done so if I hadn't had a prepaid reservation, and if that other couple hadn't come in, there's no telling how long I would have waited for the clerk to just happen to walk by. This motel makes a very poor first impression -- and a good first impression is so important to a successful business with loyal repeat customers

Not the worst but definitely not the best

We were there to see our son graduate from Navy boot camp. Bathroom was not very clean, not enough towels, ATM not working,lobby computer not working. We thought we were getting my son for the whole weekend but he had to fly out to SC the very next morning after graduation, we checked out a day early and asked for a refund for that last day and they refused!

Will never go again and would hope you close down for how horrible staff really is and my room never got cleaned once.

Navy Boot camp graduation

We arrived and we're able to check into our rooms right away, only problem was one of the rooms smelled of smoke really bad, asked for a different room and had a bit of the same smell. Hotel inside looks like it is being slowly remodeled breakfast was ok waffles, bagels, cereal,juice and coffee

Not do great.

The online pictures were not accurate. They were in the middle of remodeling, the walls were half painted, still had the old box tv's. They were doing construction on the room above us in the morning. We could also hear them at night moving stuff. It just was not a pleasant stay.

Kind and helpful staff

The staff was very helpful and very kind. The room was not that spectacular but served my purpose as I was there for my son's Navy graduation. I would stay again just ask for a different room assignment.

Not Days Inn quality we are used to.

Pros: Close to Navy RTC. Full Moon Restaurant across the highway is excellent and open 24 hours. Enterprise Rental Car is within walking distance.
Cons: Fresh coffee available 24 hours in customer lounge. Shuttle only available immediately before and after Navy PIR for a fee.
Location: The hotel is conveniently located and easy to find. Great Lakes Naval Museum is excellent and interesting. Illinois State Beach is nice and clean.
Room was a little small, but clean. Continental breakfast was weak and limited. Ice machine was being used all hours just outside our room.
