Meget bra beliggenhet

Posted Aug 10, 2015
Sentralt beliggenhet på hotell og god service. Men, harde senger og bråk fra bakgård om morgenen. Vi fikk byttet rom, men der fungerte aircondition dårlig.

Great weekend break

Posted Aug 9, 2015
Pros: The spa was excellent. Well maintained and attended, easy to use and very clean.
Cons: The restaurant staff - the only thing that let the place down.
Location: The town has a really quaint 'village' feel - bars, restaurants, piazzas, shops and gelaterias all within short walking distance. Easy access to ferry
This was a surprise weekend away for my wife's birthday. When we arrived (a short 40 minute car transfer), the hotel staff were accommodating and took our case as our room wasn't ready due to us being early for check-in. We got in the room an hour earlier than check-in time, which was great. Hotel was at the end of a small street just off a piazza which led up to an old fort. The town had a really nice 'village' feel to it as a lot of it is pedestrianised with just a few cars jostling for position with the large crowds. The room was an executive room with a balcony. We were on the side of the hotel with a view over small quay (from where boats took tourists around the peninsula), a car park, and the lake itself. Noise wasn't a problem at all. The only thing that was disappointing was the staff. With a couple of exceptions (reception staff),they were quite surly. The restaurant was particularly poor. Over-priced food and poor waiting staff working in an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful location. Such a shame. My wife's order was wrong, so they took it away, but then brought mine back on its own. We had to wait another 10mins for hers to come back, by which time mine was cold. We then had to ask for things like cutlery, pepper, balsamic vinegar etc. All of which were pretty much just thrown on the table in front of us. If you are going to stay at this hotel, which we'd certainly recommend, don't bother to eat in the restaurant - there's plenty of better ones in the town.

Fabulous location, but...

Posted Aug 8, 2015
When we arrived the pool was closed due to an undisclosed problem - it reopened after 4 days, but the 'bad drain' smell was not good!! We had 2 rooms: one room was small, dark and unappealing, our other room similar, but smaller and had an ant problem. Also, there were leaks from the bathroom, both ours and the one overhead. We were only given one pillow each and the beds were very hard. As we were v disappointed with the room, we complained and at reception they told us they would move us - they didnt! We didnt want to make 'complaining' an issue with our holiday, so we decided to spend most of our time out doing things, as Lake Garda is fabulous. However, our room, the constant smell and the attitude of some unfriendly/unhappy staff (not Filipo or Claudio, and some others who were really lovely) did pervade the enjoyment of our summer holiday. Fortunately, a final weekend in a lovely hotel in the beautiful city of Venice made us forget the negative experience and we will return to Lake Garda - but sadly not to Hotel Sirmione.

Great views of the lake but service patchy

Posted Aug 3, 2015
The hotel is beautifully located on the edge of Lake Garda with commanding views. It's a tad dated and there is a lingering smell presumably of sulphur from the lake which is less than welcoming. We arrived to the news that the swimming pool was out of action but that we could use the facilities of a twin hotel which was 500 metres away. We took a walk to the twin hotel only to be prevented from even having a look around as we didn't have our flip flops on! The swimming pool at Hotel Sirmione reopened ironically on the day we left and you didn't get the sense that they were busting a gut to get it fixed. Equally there was no prior communication from the hotel or Expedia that the pool would be closed. Or a reduction in the rate paid. With the exception of Claudio in the bar area, the staff can be somewhat dismissive and surly. You're left with the impression that the hotel is a bit past its best and instead of the staff being full of enthusiasm and customer commitment, they fail to go the extra mile and make the holiday experience more memorable. There's no doubt that the location is beautiful and the hotel could be outstanding if they encouraged the staff to be more positive and engaging.

Great location - Terrible Staff

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: The staff
The location and look of the hotel is excellent. Looks lovely from the outside and the rooms were pretty clean. The hotel did have an awful smell in the corridors. I'm assuming this was something to do with the pool being out of order. The plus side is we got free passes everyday to Aquiria - a nearby spa which also had the awful smell in places but overall, very good. The only real problem was the reception staff. They were extremely slow and a bit rude. If you ever need anything from them (daily passes to Aquiria) they tend to walk past you and ignore you

Beautiful hotel that needs some attention.

Posted Jul 25, 2015
Sirmione is a busy and beautiful place a variety of shops and restaurants. Stunning buildings and great access to the lakes taxi services. Service in restaurants is not great as there is always another group waiting for a table. Poor variety of foods but the Italian food served is generally a good standard. Salads very poor! Great ice creams if you can eat them before they melt. We were there during a heat wave so very uncomfortable. Upwards of 35 degrees very few air conditioned eateries. Shops expensive. Get outside the area to experience true Italy. Work needed on hotel our door kept breaking and generally a little shabby but a great refuge from the heat also added to the character. We didn't pay extra for a view and did not miss out. In fact our view/atop onto the marina was perfect we saw boats arriving and leaving daily and did not suffer from noise. Although a Mecca for super cars that tend to drive in circles and the owners are there to be seen. The opposite side of the lake could get very loud and the noise carried across the lake. Claudio senior bar staff is an absolute treasure full of information and knows his stuff. It was definitely worth hiring the car if you are brave enough to get out and about. Pedestrians and cars step/pull out with regularity it seems accepted. It can be unnerving.

Great location

Posted Jul 24, 2015
Pros: The location mainly
Cons: Maybe upgrade hotel rooms a bit but they are traditional and very clean.
Location: Amazing and you can visit other places easily from the ferry stop next to the hotel.
The hotel is a traditional Italian hotel so not plush but very clean and pleasant. The pool and spa are lovely if you can stand the sulphur smellbut the view over the lake is lovely and the staff are all friendly. Unfortunately we were only able to use the pool on one day out of the 5 we were there as it was out of action. The hotel however did give us free passes to their Aquaria spa up the road which was beautiful. The breakfast was adequate but not a lot of variety. We didn't eat dinner in the Hotel. What makes this hotel special is the location. It is right on the lake and next to a ferry stop. It also backs on to the main square. We would definitely choose this hotel again

Wonderful location

Wonderful location. Brilliant for exploring the historic commune of Sirmione - and farther afield: the hotel is right on the lake shore, and ferries linking Sirmione with other parts of Lake Garda stop literally next to the hotel.

Great hotel in a beautiful part of Lake Garda

Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: Great position, in one of the better parts of Lake Garda
Cons: The birds that were flying around at breakfast time were an annoyance - couldn't leave any food around to get a drink as the sparrows would converge
Location: Great location near harbour, restaurants and bus stops and river bus jetty
The hotel is lovely and well positioned - close to many beautiful restaurants and to the stop for the river bus where you can visit other parts of the lake

Very friendly and excellent service. Very lively location and convenient for boat/ferry if you want to commute by boat or ferry.
