Elegance with lovely views

Posted Aug 24, 2016
Pros: Wonderful choice at breakfast, excellent value at €16 extra and highly recommended. Fruit, fresh juice and pastries all appreciated.
Cons: No Smoking pleases also around Pool. Please supply a kettle and coffee in the room – a small but normal cost for a hotel of this quality.
Location: No shops within 400 yards; a supermarket can be found above the town square. Buy enough water etc.
Some 500 yards along the promenade from the town centre, an elegantly appointed hotel rewardingly old-fashioned in décor, fresh and immaculately clean. TV in many languages. Wi-Fi is free and reliable but needs re-registration twice daily. An indoor pool is always a useful back-up. The outdoor pool is very pleasant, with grassy areas around, and colourful flower-beds. I would ask the staff to add a No-Smoking rule around the pool (or restrict smoking to an outer corner of the garden), since smoke drifts down onto the water and impedes those trying to swim properly. A separate area could be created for those merely wishing to splash! Shade becomes somewhat limited as the sun moves into the afternoon: perhaps the umbrellas should be moved a little. Buy an all-inclusive ticket to allow entrance without queueing to (2 of the 3) Borromean Islands – which should be more enjoyable early, before the crowds. Check in advance on the somewhat infrequent connections to/from Malpensa Airport: though the hotel can reserve bus return tickets from the very gates.

Great for Lake Maggiore and Stresa

Posted Aug 24, 2016
Pros: Location + standard of service
Cons: Better control of poolside in the sense that people would put towels on loungers and go away / not use them. Something of a 'general problem' !!
Location: Good location, close to main transport links including ferries, children's play area and lakeside beach
Lovely setting + close to facilities + transport connections. Would have scored 'excellent' but we had to wait at the railway station for nearly one hour waiting for the pre-arranged taxi transfer booked by the hotel (they forgot) + were told there would be an extra charge for a cot put in the room with one adult. Told staff it was agreed at no cost which they then agreed and did not charge. Our two rooms with mountain views were OK but the view was between two wings of the hotel. Overall - staff were friendly and professional but Allissia on Reception was exceptionally helpful. We would return

Very pleasant hotel - lovely views.

Posted Aug 13, 2016
Pros: View, swimming pool.
Cons: Include the cost of breakfast in the initial price so it seems less expensive overall.
Location: Beautiful lake, easy to book boat trips to beautiful islands. Gorgeous gardens at Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Villa Taranto. Beaches and hotel pools.
Hotel very grand interior, marble floors, impressive entrance. Very efficient, rather impersonal due to size - more than 500 rooms. Attractive room, nice bathroom. Balcony with lovely view overlooking lake and Isola Bella, and attractive gardens with beautiful swimming pool. Very efficient service. About a mile walk to town centre alongside the lake. Very clean attractive resort. Bring plenty of cash - they charge extra for EVERYTHING!

Good hotel in good location

Posted Aug 2, 2016
Pros: Location and it's grandeur. Easy walk along the waterfront to Stresa, impressive decor, clean and tidy.
Cons: As mentioned in the review above, the noise from the neighbouring rooms drainage.
Location: The Borromean Islands are easily accessed. Sadly the cable car up to Mottarone is closed but worth the drive. Plenty of good restaurants and cafes.
Check-in was fast and efficient. The staff were friendly and we were accommodated in a separate block out of the back of the hotel. The distance into town is a 10 minute walk and the view from the room, although not lake facing, was of the mountains and Isolla Bella. Car parking is €10 per night in the hotel car park. There were two plumbing issues though. The first was that every time upstairs used any water facility we could loudly hear the waste water pass through the drains which disturbed our sleep. Odd for such an established hotel. I'm not sure if this is a temporary issue or permanent problem. The second issue was that the drain for the shower was slow to clear so we ended up standing in a pool of water in the shower tray. Easily fixed but coupled with the noise of the other rooms drainage sadly not the highest of ratings for the room itself. The hotel is 'grand.' The pool is sizeable, all the communal areas are clean and tidy and the location for Stresa and the ferries across the lake is good. We didn't eat or drink in the hotel so cannot comment on these aspects. Overall a good stay but sadly the plumbing issues took the edge off the experience.

Great view

Close to everything. Continental breakfast from room service was bad. You pay for location and view.

Overlooks lake.

Posted Oct 4, 2015
Pros: Location on lake.
Cons: Courtesy of front desk staff and food and drink prices. Far better wi-fi at no cost.
Location: Take Maggiore Express one day. Go see Lake Orta if you have a car.
Hotel tries to be 4 or 5 star, but closer to 3+. Some of front desk staff rude and unprofessional. Food and drink prices high. Very poor wi-fi and limited time.

Great hotel

Posted Sep 24, 2015
Pros: Comfort and style
Cons: Better pillows and a gift shop.
Location: Fabulous views and a walk away from train station and shopping area.
It was a very comfortable stay at this Hotel. We were moving on to another city and had hoped there would be another one of these chain hotels there, but there wasn't. It was very grand and comfortable but not over priced and more like American hotels.

A resort style hotel for older people.

Posted Aug 24, 2015
Cons: The staff need to take lessons in being friendly rather than just efficient.
Location: The lake, the islands, the ferries, the fresh air are all on your doorstep.
I would not recommend this as a family hotel. My room was described as "Mountain view". What that meant was a 1/4 mile walk to a satellite block where they house family groups in rooms with no soundproofing. Clearly many of the guests go back year after year to see their old friends and to spend all night in the restaurant on the overly elaborate buffet. Stresa is a great place to visit, but I won't be going back here.

Hotel Bristol review

Posted Jul 5, 2015
Pros: The views are spectacular. The hotel is well maintained and vey classy.
Cons: The Internet service at 240 minutes per day is insufficient
Location: Great location on the lake and a 10 minute walk to the center of town.
Beautiful hotel with great views of Lago Maggiore. The staff is friendly and helpful and the room with balcony facing the lake was wonderful. Their breakfast was good but nothing spectacular. They do need to improve their internet policy, a 240 minute limit per day is a bit outdated.

Grand hotel

Posted Jun 15, 2015
Location: Plenty of boat rides to the Boromean islands, and the gardens at Villa Taranto are well worth a visit.
The hotel is indeed, grand, but not pompous. The room rates quoted were competitive, but when the cost of breakfast was added, become less so. The hotel setting is very good with views across Lake Maggiori, and is convenient for boat trips.
