Opulent environment, balcony view to Lake Maggiore
Posted Sep 20, 2016
A multicolored chandelier in our room. Ornate tile work in the bathroom. Wainscoting and tromp l'oeil in the bedroom. Two floor-to-ceiling doors that opened to the balcony for a view out to Lake Maggiore. And that was just our room!
Period baroque paintings in the lobby. A lobby sitting room and another on a mezzanine floor, with office for printing train tickets, etc. And the complimentary breakfast! Served either in the formal, high ceilinged dining room or the adjacent, glass enclosed patio with a view to street and lake, we ate like European royalty. Delicate pastries. A cheese and meat assortment. Cereal, fresh yogurt, cafe Americano, juices, aqua minerale: we were delighted to see the morning arrive, so we could go to breakfast!
Finally, the multilingual staff made our entire stay in Lake Maggiore lovely. Upon arrival, they helped us get acclimated with directions to the tram up the mountain. We learned about the old village behind the hotel and how to get a water ferry to Islo Madre and Isabella.
While the room was small, similar to ther European hotels we've stay at, we couldn't have been more surprised and pleased with our stay at the Hotel Milan Speranza au Lac.
