Aging classic in need of renovation

Posted Apr 16, 2017
Pros: Buffet breakfast; historic feel to main lodge.
Cons: Rooms should be upgraded and restaurant opened beyond narrow ski season.
Stayed for one night in mid-April during a ski weekend. Facility is a classic but it's showing its age. Sprawling complex across many buildings so you will likely not be housed in main complex. Restaurant and bar closed from April-November, which was a disappointment and was not listed on website. Rooms, while spacious, are in need of renovation, especially the aging bathrooms; the walls are thin. Outdoor heated pool and whirlpool were adequate and located near bottom of complex. Buffet breakfast was a highlight with wide range of selections. Staff were generally helpful.

Winter fun !

Posted Mar 28, 2017
Pros: History photos were fun. See above comments.
Location: Skiing, shopping, restaurants. Very close to Tahoe city which is a fun town. Not far to Kings Beach and Incline Village too. Hot tub and pool.
Great location. Breakfast was delicious and had lots of choices. Heater in room was quiet and kept temperature comfortable. Unfortunately we had very noisy neighbors which was disruptive at times. Only issue, BIG spider on the wall at night which kind of kept us all up hoping it was the only one.

We are glad that you enjoyed your recent stay at Granlibakken Tahoe. Our location is perfect for a Tahoe getaway, and Granlibakken also has played a significant role in Tahoe history throughout the years. I have passed your comments on to our Housekeeping Manager, who will do an inspection of the room you were in to ensure that there are no spiders in that room. Thank you again for your feedback.

Great resort for families. Love the fact the I don't have to go elsewhere for skiing or sledding especially with small kids. Also the complementary breakfast is a great deal.

Family friendly, great location, small crowds

Posted Mar 3, 2017 on Hotels
This place was great. This was the first time we stayed here and we found it because of the zipline location. Great for families and lots of local things to do. Not too crowded and breakfast selection was amazing! Front desk is not 24/7 so make sure to call ahead. We got stuck in the snow but luckily they were still open when we got there. Pool and hot tub were great and it has a locker room where you can shower so no worries about trying to walk back to your room soaked. We will definitely come back!

Short Family Trip

Posted Feb 21, 2017 on Hotels
This is a great family resort. It is a bit dated, and not a ritzy as the marriott timber lodge or the ridge at tahoe, BUT everyone is very friendly and accommodating, they are constantly working the road and walkways to keep them from icing up (not an easy task this winter!). The hot tub is very large and very warm which was nice, the small ski/sledding hill is nice. My children range from 8-13 and are fairly confident skiers, I sat by the fire pit and let them have their go at the hill for half of a day. They had a very good time. Breakfast was good, they have basically everything you could want for breakfast but smoothies. I would come back here again for sure. We didn't have time to take advantage of the snowshoeing or the rope course, but there were plenty of people doing both. I spoke to a couple people about the snowshoe hikes and they said it was nice there were plenty of routes to choose from. Didn't speak to anyone about the rope courses, but it looked great. FYI the rope course is only available on the weekend during the winter. All in all a good weekend vacation, children really enjoyed it. Cons - would be slow wifi and beds not super comfy, not horrible, but not comfy. Not deal breakers but it might be useful for someone to know this.

Great staff but uncomfortable beds

Posted Feb 20, 2017 on Hotels
The best part about this place was the staff. And the food was excellent. As for the rooms, not so great. Uncomfortable beds and the kitchen in the room was so unorganized.
