Get what you pay for

Posted Aug 24, 2015
When we booked this on their website it didn't show the exact room you were getting hence we were very disappointed with the tiny room when we got there. There wasn't any room to place your bag so I had to leave mine in the tiny bathroom so we didn't trip over it during the night.

Nice hotel

Posted Aug 4, 2015
Pros: We liked the fact that you could have a lovely meal without driving any where and how cosy the room was.
Cons: As in any hotel you get the early morning risers. You don't need a alarm clock then.
Location: It was close to town, just a short walk and over the road from the lake.
This hotel is a walk away from town and over the road from the lake. Lovely dining in their restaurant. The room was nice and toasty on a cool day.

On lake front and within walking distance of town

Posted Aug 3, 2015
Pros: On lake front with modern clean rooms
Cons: Ability to change the room temperature
Location: Within walking distance of town. As being on lake front, all the activities are at your door step.
The rooms are modern and clean and as described. The only negative is the rooms are really hot and there does not appear to be any ability to change it. So can be rather stuffy (even on a cold day) and necessitates the need to open window to improve circulation. One can also hear guests in adjoining rooms.

lovely lakefront hotel

Posted Aug 2, 2015
Pros: It is close to town and the restaurant is fabulous and the staff are approachable and friendly. Also the view from the front of the hotel is amazing.
Cons: Some of the decore is dated but other that it is very comfortable:)
Location: There is so much to see and do in Taupo just a short walk or drive to many sight seeing and tourist attractions and only an hour to the ski fields .
This lovely lakefront hotel is inviting from the large lounge chairs in the front entrance to the caring friendly staff. The spacious rooms are clean and comfortable. The in house restaurant "the Lazy Trout" serves delicious meals and seafood fresh from the sea !! It is a short walk to enjoy the shopping in Taupo and check out the cafe and restaurant scene. This is our second stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. Enjoy !!

Cons: More off street parking
We were in the room late and gone in the morning but it was clean, warm, close to town and if I had been there long enough, I'm sure I would have enjoyed the view too!

A Bed for the Night

Posted Jul 25, 2015
Pros: Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Great shower and my room had good range of amenities.
Cons: Can't think of anything I would change.
Location: Taupo has plenty to do. Golf, fishing, swimming, hikes, restaurants and bars, lots of cultural sites to explore.
I was travelling from Wellington to Auckland and Taupo seemed like a good place to stop at 9.30pm. The Wellesley Hotel is an easily located hotel on the lakefront. It's a little dated but in very good condition and very clean.

Warm and quiet

It was a comfortable haven on a cold blustery evening. Good shower, warm bathroom floor, that really appealed!

Exterior makes promises the interior doesn't keep.

Pros: Appearance & location.
Cons: Pricing especially the breakfast.
Yes it's a fantastic location, yes it's ten minutes walk into town and from the outside it looks very good indeed. And to be fair the small reception is nicely appointed. The rooms however are very small and under furnished, and a breakfast (for a family of four) is simply cost-prohibitive. Would we stay there again ?? - yes we would, would we pay the full price ?? - no thanks, we'll wait for a discount again.
