I have traveled around the world, and can say that the Sora Lodge is a GREAT place to stay. Staff arranged a complete sightseeing itinerary, and provided the very best in guides for us. Food was amazing in every way. Entire staff was very attentive, and really went the distance to make this a great stay. Thank for Sora Lodge!

Good stay in the heart of Lalibela, approximately 20 minutes walk from the rock-hewn churches. The property is in a quiet area of the town overlooking a valley and distant hills offering a great view. The property has an array of different rooms which are well maintained offering different experiences. The food menu has good variety and the staff are quite hospitable.

We stayed in the rooms that were like regular hotel rooms. The views were beautiful from both the balcony and the front door. I was not aware that the lodge has newer rooms that are fabulously beautiful and actually quite luxurious. I saw them on the day we left and wish we had stayed in those. They cost more, of course, but I would have enjoyed those rooms and their extra-special location. The service was excellent and friendly. I recommend heartily.

The owner was very accommodating and helpful. Although this region was and continues to be impacted by the Civil War, Huti the owner went out his way to provide the best service. For example, he upgraded my room to a Suite on my first day. Speaking of the room, the views from the suites can't be beat. Overall I had a great experience at the Sora Lodge.

Great location in Lalibela, was able to walk everywhere to see the stone churches. Was quiet and the staff was very helpful with anything I needed. One thing to remember is Lalibela is without power at the moment, so Sora had a small generator that ran for 3-4 hours a day which was enough to charge my devices. However, it means a current lack of hot water, though plenty of water to clean with as needed. I would recommend staying there and might revisit when I return to the area.

Sora Lodge
great views, good spot for sunsets and for watching the birds riding the thermals, very friendly staff, reception able to recommend guides (in this case the excellent Muluye Tsegaw - Muluye_tsegaw @ yahoo.com who runs Zaglo Ethiopia www.zagloethiopiatours.com). Food wasn't amazing, but there are a number of options in the and around the town.

Sora Lodge is a lovely place to stay in Lalibela. It’s far enough away from the major tourist center to be quiet and calm, with beautiful views of the mountains. Still, everything is easily accessible. The service was excellent and we would definitely recommend this.

There are better places nearby.
For Entebbe, look for a place that has air conditioning. The al fresca dining is nice, but if it's raining everyone will be crowded into the dining room.

Happy Camper for 3 Nights
I stayed at Sora Lodge for 3 nights in November and was perfectly happy. Airport pickup and return (shared shuttle, 100 birr) were smooth, check in even more so. The lodge has wonderful views whether you are in your tukul, restaurant, reception or outside bar, the sunsets are gorgeous. Wifi is available at the reception. Staff was always friendly and helpful and the restaurant has a great mix of Ethiopian and western foods. Sora also arranged my guide, Alex Geta, whatsapp +251 92 262 7352. He was very professional, happy to share facts and legends about Lalibela's history and also happy to give me a hand when climbing up or down. I believe most people spend a single day in Lalibela and visit the in-town churches, which are truly mind-boggling. As I had more time, I also spent an afternoon visiting Asheton Maryam (about 45 minutes from town) and a full day trip to visit 4 of the Bilbilla Circuit churches, all with Alex and a driver arranged by Sora. These trips give you a better idea how beautiful the landscape is, how people live and the opportunity to meet the priests of these less-visited churches. My Lalibela suggestion would be to spend 2 full days, one for in-town churches and one for a side trip of your choice.

Excellent place to experience this beautiful town in comfort. Very helpful staff, good English, and inviting. It's not the cheapest place in Lalibella but definitely worth staying here. All historical sites within walking distance, and via the lodge we'll arrange an excellent guide. Aley is an enthusiastic guide with a lot of knowledge. It was a true pleasure to be guided by him for the entire day.

Lovely views, reasonable value for money.
We enjoyed our stay at Sora Lodge for the most part. The staff were friendly in the restaurant and the food was tasty. The best thing about Sora has to be the views which are spectacular from the restaurant, terrace and garden, with vultures swooping around. The room was comfortable, with a nice balcony, however the shower wasn't working when we arrived and never really picked up much, although we did report this and they said they had fixed it (it was a little better the second morning). Mornings start early in Lalibela due to the chanting from the churches (at around 3.30am) but that is part of the experience. If you are visiting the sites at Lalibela, it is a convenient place to stay and you could walk to see the churches, although we didn't and we were glad of being driven there due to the high altitude. It has to be said, that Sora Lodge was one of the better hotels we stayed in during our trip around Ethiopia and it seemed also to be one of the better ones in Lalibela itself. It represents reasonable value for money.

Great location, beautiful view, friendly staff
I stayed for one day in Sora Lodge, and it was very pleasant: smooth pick-up and drop-off at the airport (100 birr, about little more than $4, each way), clean room with beautiful view both for sunrise and sunset, friendly and helpful staff, and a decent restaurant with good traditional Ethiopian food options and some German dishes.

Visiting the rock hewn churches of Lalibela
The lodge is a small hotel situated on a hill with a breathtaking view of the mountains and valley. Very good service and friendly staff. Try to get a room on the 3rd floor to have a great view from the room balcony. Also the lodge has nice traditional room overlooking the valley. Hotly recommended.

Perfect place to stay in Lalibela
I stayed at Sora Lodge for two nights during a visit to Lalibela. They organised airport transfers for me, and a tour of the church compounds. I found it to be a perfect place to stay for a couple of nights in Lalibela and would recommend it to any solo travellers / couples / groups visiting the area. The "worst" thing was probably the intermittent wifi and the morning power-cuts, however you have to accept that in this region, all hotels will come with these issues. Therefore the positives about Sora Lodge were the friendly staff (the waitress in the restaurant was lovely and chatted to me during my meals alone - she was excellent), the comfortable rooms, hot showers, beautiful views (both from the restaurant and the room balconies), and the peaceful surrounds compared to being right in the town. The food in the restaurant was also very good. All in all I would certainly recommend Sora Lodge.

Lovely mountain retreat
We loved this place. It was very neat and clean, with free wifi on the rooms and cafeteria. The tour guide was nice and very flexible and knowledgeable. The only downside is that the hotel doesn't take credit cards so all the restaurants take cash of all currencies. Overall, it's a lovely place and we highly recommend the place to others.

Nice and comfortable place to stay
The front desk person, Arsema was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. We were tired and hungry due to a long delayed of the flight. Arsema went and got us some freshly cooked food within 30mins then brought them to our room. We had a delicious lunch on our balcony with the great mountain view. It was so relaxing after a long journey of waiting at the airport. The fresh air, the view of the surrounding and the service, we definitely will return here again. It is really a get away home away from home.

Had HOT water.
It is the farthest hotel from morning prayers. I actually did love the faint sound of the church. Had HOT water! Wonderful. Room has a mountain cabin feel. Sliding door to balcony needs a stopper to lay in the slide for added feel of protection. The door does have a lock. Just a weak one. Foam mattress. Soap only. I WOULD stay here again as my 1st choice because of hot water. I placed insect repellent around. Not one buzz in the night. Great!

Great Lodge in Lalibela!
The staff was friendly and helpful in organizing transport and tour guides. They also invited guests to join them in a St. Mary's Day party that was one of the highlights of our trip. The lodge is a short walk to one of the groups of churches, as well as shops. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had consistent hot water and electricity. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

Reasonably nice, if somewhat pricey, hotel
The hotel staff were very helpful, including an airport pick-up for 100 birr even though I had forgotten to request it, and arranging for a guide to the churches. Rooms are clean and spacious, and there is 24/7 hot water, although they lack air conditioning so they can be a little hot at night. The restaurant is convenient and has a terrace with a nice view of the mountains as well. Although the hotel is a little far from the main town, this isn't a problem because I mostly got around by tuk-tuk. My main concern is that the hotel is not worth $50 USD / night -- although it is quite nice, I think $50 USD / night is too expensive for the value that you are getting.

Great stay at Sora Lodge!
Great stay at Sora Lodge. We stayed there for two nights in Feb 2016. They gave us a great tour guide who took us around to churches and hiking. The restaurant food was good. No TV in room and the Internet is slow. Make sure to bring bug spray. Ask for a room on the third floor to the sunset/sunrise.

Lovely hotel with fantastic service
We loved our stay at Sora Lodge! The rooms were clean and comfortable, water was reliably hot, and we had a lovely little balcony from our room with a wonderful view. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. We got to take a cooking class and learn how to make shiro and injera, which was so much fun! They also organized fun cultural activities, like a traditional coffee ceremony to celebrate Christmas. We also were connected with a great guide for the rock hewn churches - Muluye Tsegaw - who we highly recommend. Overall a fantastic stay.

Awesome views and great food
Two things struck me when we arrived: the superb views and the smell of polish when we walked into the room. It was also a nice welcoming touch that the receptionist took the time to show us our room as well. The room was furnished with traditional curtains and bedding and there was hot water. The wi fi in the room was occasionally intermittent but it gave us an excuse to peruse the view from the restaurant and have a coffee or a local beer. Very good service and i loved that the hotel is growing tomatoes papaya etc which it serves in its restaurant. The arrabiata was made with home grown tomatoes and rocked my socks. I would suggest that all hotels in the area have a facility for tourists to make a donation(maybe for school books or the football team...whatever the community needs) so that tourists who want to contribute to the community can do so in a meaningful way as lalibela doesnt havevthe begging issue that other places seem to have. Our guide informed us the community dont want tourists to give money to children as this encourages them to stay away from school and beg. Having a system in place would perhaps make a difference. Thanks to the staff at sora lodge for making our stay so enjoyable.

Easy Weekend Getaway at Soro Lodge
I stayed for 3 nights at the Soro Lodge for a long weekend getaway from Addis. Habate was very communicative over email in advance of the trip and set up a nice itinerary that included churches, hiking, market and cultural events. The guide he put me with was Muluye and he was great - very knowledgeable about the history & flexible with the schedule. The room was basic but it had a comfortable bed, balcony with stunning view and hot shower. Everything I at the restaurant was absolutely delicious (the German meatballs and fresh local beats was my favorite meal.) Hotel staff was friendly. Great experience.

Enjoyable weekend getaway in Lalibela
Coordinating a tour was easy with the hotel staff. It was well-priced, the tour guide Muluye was great, and the airport pickup and dropoffs were perfectly on time. I found the food in the restaurant to also be really good. The hotel itself is out on a ridge towards one edge of town but easily walkable from the churches. It kept it quiet and gave my room some spectacular views out both sides.
