Room Services

Posted Sep 19, 2016
The hotel was undergoing several constructing projects, which probably restricted their ability to provide better service.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, we are currently renovating the west hotel tower and expect completion by Christmas. We have also remodeled the Redwood Steakhouse, Holo Holo Bar, Sports Book, Aloha Specialties and the entire Casino Floor.

Want to see the world's smallest hotel bathroom!

Posted Sep 1, 2016
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Had a non-smoking room (yes they do exist in Vegas!). Older hotel but clean and well kept. Bed was very uncomfortable. Needed drapes as room could not be darkened enough to sleep. The bathroom area was hilarious - I have never see such a small bathroom! A must see to believe! But the essential were all there. Is a popular hotel for tour groups. It was o.k. for a one night stay. Price was modest and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Good value - No frills and no resort fee

Posted Aug 27, 2016
Pros: No frills with the corresponding no resort fee.
Cons: Not much...keep to the value proposition.
Location: Fremont Street has come a long way. Do enjoy the short stroll to this attraction.
Having lived in Hawaii for couple of years I felt immediately at home with the overwhelming majority of Hawaiian guests. Oddly enough, I met our former next door neighbor just after we checked in to this place. The hotel certainly addresses the practical no-frills nature of Hawaiians. Most of the guests had a coupon book and they've used it with vigor. I need to get my hands on one of these coupon books. The room was refreshed; however, you can see that most of it was cosmetic. Nonetheless, the room was clean and everything was functional. We tried the California Noodle House and Market Street Café. Both were okay; Market Street Café gives you better value. The ramen at the noodle house was bit to firm and the broth was too salty. Pad Thai was pretty good. Breakfast buffet at the Market Street Café was sub-ar. We did, however, really enjoy the $9.99 prime rib special at the Market Street Café...probably the best value in old Las Vegas. Getting the daily $10 food credit was a nice bonus...this time the fine print worked in our favor.

Cons: I know they are renovating, but the bathrooms are so small

Best part of the stay was the Valet guy Jack!

Posted Aug 17, 2016
Pros: The Valet staff
Cons: The check in staff was BlaH
Location: Triple George is just around the corner
a mid price hotel near to old Fremont street area. Cafe was decent for the price, nothing memorable. Had asked for a king size bed when I made the reservation but was told not available at check in . The Valet staff were great. Very attentive and fast.

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay. We are pleased to hear of the service you received from our valet team. We are disappointed to learn of your experience with our front desk team and we apologize we weren't able to accommodate your requested room type. We hope you will visit us again during your next stay downtown.

Good shape

Posted Aug 16, 2016
The bed and pillows were awful. I woke with a stiff neck and pain in my right shoulder and arm. I sleep in many different beds as I'm a house sitter and never have this problem. I did ask the front desk if they have feather pillows but they don't. Instead I didn't use a pillow the next night. I'm still in pain. The room was in good shape but the bathroom showed its age. For the price the hotel was nice.

Affordable with no resort fee

Posted Aug 15, 2016
Pros: $10 F&B Credit; location near Fremont Experience.
Cons: Cleanliness of the bathroom (remove the rust and mold). But this would probably increase the hotel rate. ;)
Location: Fremont Street Experience; can take the shuttle service free from the hotel to Sam's Town to Harrah's to get the strip at no charge, but takes ~80 min
If you're looking for value, this would be the place. You get what you pay for so don't expect a 5-star quality. Pool on the roof top is the size of one you would see in an apartment complex. The Food and Beverage credit of $10.00 a night was awesome. After 11PM, you can actually get quite a lot with that credit at the Market Street Cafe.

Great Service

Posted Aug 15, 2016
Pros: For a hotel that lacks in glamour, it certainly makes up for it in service and an attentive and friendly staff.
Cons: The Cal was never one for glamour, but perhaps a bit more sparkle might attract even more patrons.
Location: While it isn't the strip, there are certainly fun things to do in downtown, including the Freemont Experience, shopping and good dining.
I cannot say enough about how friendly and attentive the staff was. From check-in to housekeeping to parking to check-out, the service and attentiveness of the staff was first-rate. Kudos to the Cal for having such awesome employees.
