Unique and Charming

Posted Sep 3, 2017
Pros: charming, unique, romantic
Location: hot springs!
Why should you stay at some plastic cookie-cutter place when you could stay at this unique, charming, and retro hotel on the river? Stuffed buffalo and moose heads, spring-fed private healing hot springs, beautiful old style, plus comfortable mattress and bathroom? If you want to have a boring vacay, go ahead, but why not have an adventure and an experience instead? This is a lovely, magical place, and we will stay here again next time we're in this part of the world. True old world charm can still be found, thankfully.

Gem in Lava

Posted Aug 27, 2017
Charming old hotel. The rooms are clean, roomy and quiet. There is a fantastic restaurant downstairs. The breakfast (included in stay) on the weekends served in the restaurant is amazibf. The pastry chef Mary makes fabulous croissants and other delicious sweets. And the bacon! Wow. The hot tubs are a little dated but seem clean. The hotel offers bathrobes which is a nice touch.

Location: Famous Lava Hot Springs Pool and Hot Pools, Thunder Canyon Golf Course. Portneuf River Floating and .
The staff was great. No handicap access or amenities. Poor paint and bathroom conditions. Terrible bed. Beautiful antique furniture. Really expensive food. and nothing normal to eat. We read the menu and went somewhere else.

Dear Sandi, We appreciate your feedback and have noted your comments. We would like to address on a few of your comments: We are a historic hotel and are not accessible it is noted on Expedia as not accessible, but we will see if there is a better way to emphasize this. All of the mattresses are in the process of being replaced which should be completed around July 28, 2017. The hotel restaurant boasts a team of professional culinary artists featuring a unique & freshly prepared menu which is attractive to the majority of our guests. We apologize that you did not find our offering to your liking, but are please that you found alternative dining. Again thank you for staying with us and coming to Lava Hot Springs.

Better than your happy place.

Posted Jun 24, 2017
Pros: Rooms (furnishings); Attitude (staff); services (breakfast, special requests)
Cons: Zero
Location: mineral baths; local geography
Like getting to stay with your favorite grandparents, in their classic old home, when you were a child [...in a good way]. I was greeted like family. There were no ice makers or vending machines... there was a real person! who asked if I needed anything. When I asked for a glass of ice at check-in, they brought it up to my room. The breakfast included home cooked (yes, literally "home" cooked - not S. E. Rykoff warmed in the oven) hand made puff pastries filled with vegetables and instructions to "help yourself to coffee and what goodies are in the kitchen refrigerator." In the past I traveled for work and stayed at the very nice and very modern and clean high-end accommodations; this was so much better of an experience.

Overall it was not bad. However, I arrived late on the night of Jun.7 ,2017 and I was so tired that I fell asleep after souring. The next morning, with the bumps on the shoulders, neck, thighs, and many other insects,it was itching. It is not known whether it is bitten by mosquito or bitten by another bug. My wife also had the same symptoms, but I thought it was not a big problem and came back to the hotel without protesting. I was itching all the way back.Until now, it is going to go hospital if it is not low till Monday.

Facility has private mineral pools, and is close to public hot pools. Can hear external noise a bit.
