"We had such a specia stay for our anniversary. We enjoyed the pool, spa (both had lovely treatments) and bike hire. Staff were so friendly and helpful and the hotel had a grand, traditional feel. "

"Carol and Ceri looked after us very well, beginning with their greeting us at the front door on our arrival. The bed was comfortable and all room facilities excellent (lovely soft towels), except that the bedside lights are not bright enough for old eyes to read by. Breakfasts, prepared by Ceri, were top class; we really looked forward to coming downstairs each morning at 8.30. It was good to be made to feel part of the family, especially as we were able to chat to other guests at the breakfast table. If we had a niggle it would be a sense that the public areas in the house are somewhat cluttered. One had to constantly be careful not to knock over a vase or a large artificial flowering tree, or bump into a table or stool as one went by. As an aside, the dining chairs are very heavy if one had to move them."

"After a long drive down from Co Durham we were welcomed warmly by Dee with tea and cake.My husband doesnt drink tea or coffee so was offered elderflower cordial which he said was the best he's ever had, it may well have spoiled him for any other now. We had a lovely chat with Dee about gardens, local places to visit etc and then shown to our room. We had the en suite double overlooking the garden. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was ample storage. The shower was excellent, the bathroom was very up to date. The breakfast the next and following days were spot on. Plenty of choice, all well cooked and more toast and tea was offered. The wifi is good also Behind the house is a vast garden. It doesnt look huge because of its thoughtful layout, but it just keeps going. The garden features in an open garden event in August and we were chuffed to get a look in before the crowds. We are now trying to come up with reasons to re visit. We will be back. Thank you Dee for a lovely stay."

"What a lovely place to stay! Located in a lovely area with views of the sea this place is great to stay for a little weekend in Brighton. Check in was really easy and the room was perfect! Breakfast included was a huge bonus. Staff are really helpful and friendly especially the young lady on reception, Can't remember her name but she was a star a real highlight to the place. Will definitely be staying here again!"

"Was a little concerned when we couldn't contact anybody regarding Check In (They had a big wedding going on on the Saturday when I tried to call) - Call returned Sunday Am at about the same time that we went to make sure alll was OK which it was and we even checked in early - result! Returned later - enjoyed the peaceful ambiance. Only comment would be that room could do with 2 comfortable chairs - especially as it is the "Premium Room" - the hard ones not so good forsitting for any length of time."

"The bed was a king size comfortable bed with nice linen. Clean fluffy towels and plenty of room in the bathroom. The shower was good and did not have any mould. We stayed in one of the pubs old out buildings that has been converted into accommodation. No frills, clean and private. The only thing to consider is that the headboard backs onto the road. That being said only 3 vehicles passed during our stay. The owner was nice and chatty. The blinds in the bedroom did let the morning sun in they did not black out the room. I like a little sun in the morning so it did not bother me. Great back gardening you are thinking of taking your dog. Great view of the downs and peaceful. Great stay and amazing situation for walking. Short drive to a local brewery (Long Man), Zoo and children's adventure park (Drusilla's)."

"This is our go-to lodging when attending the opera at Glyndebourne. A wonderful, country house in Uckfield, set on beautiful, expansive private grounds. Comfortably and exquisitely furnished, it is always a pleasure to arrive and occupy the spacious common rooms and assigned bedrooms. As frequently encountered in England, old properties may lack some modern amenities Americans are used to like air conditioning and convenient USB charging ports. Televisions are dated; rooms do not have clocks. But rooms are spacious and elegant, with large, tall windows, some of which do not open. Our visit in July encountered unusual hot weather the first days of our stay. Our Nevill suite on the first floor (second floor in American parlance), with west-facing windows, reached almost 90 degrees F (32 C), making things unbearable. We located a fan, but it offered minimal respite. The Horsted Restaurant serves in two stylish rooms inside and on a terrace outside; tea is served there, in common rooms and on the terrace. The tiny eponymous bar may have been a former pantry. Or closet. Food is quite good, but service seems understaffed at times. Another shortcoming, servers deliver your food and fail ever to check back for comments or additional requests. Some training may be in order. Staff are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Some staff members’ families have been associated with the property for many years in various capacities. In all, our latest stay was enjoyable and memorable. "

"This was like staying with friends for a smart weekend in the country. Ann gave us a guided tour, and later showed me round her hi-tech greenhouse when I expressed an interest. The house and garden are fabulous, our room was huge and elegant with a big comfortable bed and a walk-in rainfall shower. There was a lounge room and patio we could use, where you could watch interesting bird species on the feeders. Breakfasts are performance art - Ann and Martin make a big thing of choices in every respect and tend to hover to ensure you have everything you want, so be prepared to be sociable! You need to drive to get to places, Lewes makes an enjoyable day out nearby and there are good pubs around."
