One of the things, in my opinion, that this hotel chain is consistent at is disappointing customers. This was my third stay at a Double Tree and at each one I don't see customer service, i see them looking at you in terms of how much they think you will spend. This hotel is no different.
Yes you have to visit the Sky Bar, but this is where your problems start. We ordered 2 large glasses of wine at £14.30 a glass. So, the bill was £31.90. I then discover that a server brought 2 glasses of iced water which we didn’t order, didn’t want and didn’t drink. The red wine was disgusting and tasted like it had been in an opened bottle for weeks. When i complained everyone was "sorry to hear that sir" but nobody did anything until i spoke to the security person who brought the var manager. She was "sorry to hear that" and offered drinks vouchers which would be delivered to an undefined place.
We went downstairs to the Lock Bar where a superb member of staff, Ivan, rescued our evening with his exceptional service which revolved around his dry humour which kept us in chuckles.
Then as we were heading for bed at 19.45 pm, reception said there were some drinks vouchers for us. They tried to phone us in our room but nobody answered. Like we were going to be in our room! I asked why they didn’t phone my mobile or send me an email. This was clearly beyond their capability. So, our experience in the Sky Bar was tantamount to theft. If you use it, prepare to get fitted up .
