Escape to Downton Abbey

Posted Oct 2, 2017
Blantyre is like being in a Scottish manor in the beautiful countryside. Time has truly stopped here in a good way. Fortunately there is also a modern spa and enormous whirlpool. The cuisine is exceptional. The service is perfect. And you can't beat the Berkshires for nature and culture.

Kind of Stuffy

Posted Aug 19, 2017
Pros: The gardens and grounds are beautiful
Cons: A bit of brightness somewhere to counteract the dark t0nes.
Location: this is well known
The facility is very old world, not too stale, tho. It could sand a bit of freshening up in some way. The staff is a bit too pretentious & formal, but that seems to be the niche they are cultivating. They lay on a mandatory 20% service charge, which we found offensive. The grounds are beautiful! The "mansion" is a bit out of a horror movie, but again, that is the vibe they're going for. Spa is a bit claustrophobic. Pool is just ok.

charming hotel in New England

Posted Oct 6, 2016 on Hotels
This hotel is outstanding. Located in its own grounds, as soon as you go up the drive and approach this impressive building you just know it is going to be spectacular. The staff are absolutely wonderful - so helpful and attentive. The decor befits a country house in England and the lawned gardens offer delightful walks. The pianist in the music room in the evening offered a pleasant accompaniment to pre and post dinner drinks. Although the menu for the restaurant was a little limited, the food was very good and the wine list was more of a bible than a list! Would definitely recomend this hotel.

Pros: Extremely attentive staff.
Cons: Nothing
I have traveled extensively & thoroughly enjoyed my stay, there are few places in the US to compare Blantyre. I look forward to a return visit soon!
