An older hotel, with small rooms and facilities, but decently maintained and with a friendly, helpful staff. Very well located in a good area of the upper Avenida de Liberdade. Convenient. Good breakfast with a mix of hot and cold food laid out.

Great location and price!
We had a great experience while visiting Lisbon. Our hotel was in a great location to the subway or walking distance if you prefer to walk to Rossio sq.

quite place for bed and shower.
Hotel must be a very old building, old lift which was not always dependable, room was not in best condition with what appeared to be water damage on the ceiling and was dropping paint and drywall particles allover. Not many amenities included in stay or in the hotel. It has a bar but that's about it. Free WiFi was helpful, TV stations not much to mention. Small bathroom, with odd layout and low water pressure. Hotel was good as a place for sleep and shower but just about it. Would pick a different place if I have a choice.

Could have been better!
The hotel was OK, in a decent location with about a 20 minute walk to the center of Lisbon, but there were problems. First of all, the rooms aren't cleaned until around 2 or later. Not a problem if you're out all day, but not good if you want to use your room during the day. Next, the guy in charge of breakfast is very rude. There aren't enough tables for the number of guests and he would very rudely tell people to wait nearby until a table was ready. Not what we wanted first thing in the morning. Third, there's a loud machine noise all night, at least in our room on the 7th floor. It didn't bother my wife, but I'm a light sleeper.

Nice clean older hotel
You can't beat the location, and the staff is friendly. The rooms are dated, but the pros outweighed the cons especially for the price. The breakfast is really nice, and they have a small bar.

A few days in lisbon
It was old and outdated. I liked having 2 rooms but was on the lower floor and a major construction job was right next to my window. Also one of the windows was not locked and I am a single female. I called them to lock it and they did. Not too safe anyone can slide that open and get in. The location was great.

Never again
When I arrived he had any idea I was coming. They gave a room in the 4th floor up the stairs. He did no offered to help with the luggage. Bathroom shared outside was dirty as well as the drawers in the room. The noise was too much, I couldn't sleep that night. The following morning I checked out and luckily I had booked a hotel right in the center of town very nice for 15 euros more.

2nd time at Hotel Jorge V
Second time at this hotel, last time 3 years ago. Staff continue to be pleasant and helpful. Hotel has not changed much since last time, so I would say is due for some upgrades. Location is great but we had problems with the room key card system that was inconvenient and the staff could not seem to resolve it short of issuing new cards almost every day.

Small but nice.
The hotel though small is clean and the rooms quite comfortable. The location is in a quiet street and the tourist hop-on-hop off bus terminal is within walking distance. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is adequate but choice is limited. Would still recommend.

Tired, but clean.
Honestly, the hotel was pretty tired. But the staff was very friendly and they kept our bags for us for an extra day while we traveled around a bit. We had a good sleep and the room was clean and quiet. Not worth the dollars we paid but if you get a deal and you have low expectations, this is a great location in the city, safe and serviceable hotel.

Good value
The central location and the price made me choose this hotel. It was an excellent base to move around Lisbon. I used the hotel just for sleeping, and it was confortable. For Breakfast, the opposite 'Padaria Portuguesa' is a marvelous choice. The TV had only two Portuguese channels. I will go there again.

The hotel was easy to find and near the Metro and public transport bus stops. The room was comfortable and the staff very friendly. The receptionist had a lot of local knowledge. There was a bar near reception. The breakfast was surprisingly good.

Well situated, comfortable and good value hotel
The Hotel Jorge V is good three star hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean and free WiFi was in evidence both in my room and in the breakfast dining area. On the downside one morning there were insufficient tables at breakfast resulting in a queue and the view from the room was the side of another building. Overall the hotel is well run and good value.

Hotel Jorge V - not good enough
From past travel experience, I expected to like this hotel, despite some of the reviews, but I have to say it was just too dated, shabby and noisy. We had a room on the sixth floor. Really basic, old furniture, unloved grubby balcony (no seats) and a grubby carpet. Really tiny bathroom, so much so showering was uncomfortable with the shower curtain sticking to you all the time. I pulled a socket out of the wall to plug something else in and a whole load of wires came out with it! The air con was really good, bathroom clean and bedding fresh and changed regularly. Location is fab. The biggest problem, whilst not directly caused by the hotel, for us was the noise of building works starting early and on Thurs, Fri and Sat the horrendous loud noise from a nearby bar (we like nightlife and returned from the Barrio Alto most nights fairly late but this was super late and super ridiculously loud!). So sleep was disrupted (for me the number one necessity in a hotel). Soundproofed windows and balcony doors needed. We didn't try the breakfast. Reception staff varied. Some friendly, some not so. Overall, whilst I appreciate the price, the basic necessity of sleep (noise) and cleanliness (grubby carpet) weren't met so for me, so a no return. I felt the hotel was unloved, like they'd lost interest, I have stayed in similar 3 star, low price hotels and found some gems. Lisbon itself, absolutely wonderful.

nice hotel, but a bit run-down. in the summer of 2014 the back of the hotel faces a building site (noisy between 8 a.m and 6.30 pm), which is why I don't rate it higher than 3. Apart from that, good value for the area, with breakfast included and free wifi in room.

Arrived a bit early, was told room not ready. Came back later, received a room key. Went to the room only to find people sleeping in the room. Went to get another key, next room had a over whelming smoke smell. Third room had a leaky tap and the locks on the windows did not work. This place needs a new manager and upgrades. Would not recommend !

Good stay in Lisbon
We went to Lisbon for 4 days and this was a perfect hotel since it was close to many of the attractions and public transportation. We mainly used it as a place to sleep and weren't there that much so there's no compliant from us from that standpoint. Wi-fi was slow and breakfast was bad if you plan on eating there.

A big disappointment
How this hotel gets three stars is a mystery. The facade is in need of repair, the lobby and breakfast room are small, dark, and unwelcoming. Upon entering, one doesn't feel happy to have booked there. The breakfast was barely edible; few fresh fruits and some with no flavor; bitter, lukewarm coffee, mushy croissants. We went elsewhere for breakfast two of the three days of our stay. Rooms: small, carpet that I wouldn't walk on with bare feet. The lights above the bed are placed precisely so that you bang your head if you sit up to read. The furnishings are basic and old. Bathrooms you expect to be tiny in Europe; this one was miniscule and the shower curtain barely reached the top edge of the tub, making it hard not to flood the floor. A tiny shelf above the sink was the only place to set anything down. Their solution for luggage storage if you check out before heading for the train is in the corner of the lobby. We were happy to move on from this hotel.

Nicw Hotel in Charming District!
Although the hotel is a bit older... it is clean, and the staff is magnificent! Friendly, courteous, most are English speaking for the linguistically challenged. The area is charming, in late 1700s style; a short walk will take you to many interesting places, including the Botanical Gardens. To see the city, or nearby locations such as Fatima, the staff at the front desk can sell you a ticket for the tour of your choice; they will make all arrangements, many tours have hotel pick-up and drop-off. A GREAT complimentary breakfast, free WI-FI. VERY reasonable rates. I will stay again!

Great value albeit a bit dated
I was very happy with my stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was great too, especially since it included wi-fi and a breakfast buffet (which was more than adequate--I did use it all three mornings of my stay). Short walk to two different metro stations, which was very convenient. My only problem was that the hotel was older and a bit dated. It could use a bit of renovation, but overall a great place to stay on a budget with character.

Behind the main avenue with designer labels! Would have made grubby jeans wearing travellers feel very grotty if it wasn't for the occasional homeless person sleeping on the street. Our room even had a balcony with a glimpse of the harbour, lovely in good weather. Tiny lift.

Very good value. Convenient location.
The location is great. It is quiet but very handy to Metro and bus services. This was the second time I have stayed there (previously in 2005). Again I found the staff very nice and very helpful. Unfortunately the hotel is showing its age and is in need of some renovation. With the economy in Portugal at present this may not happen too soon. The price for the room was certainly no more than 9 years ago and maybe a bit less. For the price it is terrific value.

This hotel was well located to explore down town lisboa, if you enjoy walking you will save on transport. Closae proximity to Metro station. Make sure you buy a 24 hour day from airport. Very friendly staff, amenities met to our satisfaction. Standard breakfast at hotel. We shall use this place again when in Lisbon.

This is a great hotel, close to metro so its easy for a visitor to fine, big clean rooms with great bed, real bathrub with lots of hot water! My reservation said check in was at @pm but I had an early flight and found the place a little after 10am. I went in just to see if I could leave my bag but they offered to go ahead and put my in my room. Very nice place, great staff, I had a great time in Lisbon and would stay there again for sure!

Clean and comfortable place to stay, but room was very plain- a little hospital like. View out the back of a derelict office block not great either. Breakfast was good, but they need a sign saying 'please wait to be seated' - caused embarrasement for us and virtually every other guest on the first morning as you are ushered off an empty table so it can be laid...!

Perfect location
Perfect location it was; close to very central historical Lisbon, one street away from posh shopping district - two streets away from original, still a bit run-down quarters with hundreds of great local restaurants. Metro few minutes away, we only used it twice, on arrival and departure. Located on quiet street in financial district, yet two minutes away from day and night busy main street with bars open till late. Hotel itself not exciting at all, nothing wrong with it except air-con that didn't work properly, ridiculously small bathtub and breakfast area with way too few tables to accommodate all, hence a queue every morning. OK for couple of nights, but would look around for bargain in the same area for holiday stay.
