A really puzzling experience...

Posted Nov 24, 2012
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Desperately in need of refurbishment
A really puzzling experience; very friendly staff in a time-warp hotel from the 1950's. Miles of corridors through what seems to be several traditional seaside hotels bolted together; a single lift; multiple levels of public areas with showcases on either side featuring everything from jewelry to dress hire - and, while we were there, events for elderly ladies. Our room had two 1930s candelabra while the bathroom had an apricot 1950s bath suite...

You Get What You Pay For

Cons: A loud giggling breakfast waitress
Location: near to everything
we knew from reading previous reviews that the hotel was "tired and dated" and I agree that it is quite old fashioned, however it was also spotlessly clean the staff very helpful and friendly, the view great and the breakfast brilliant.

Time for some TLC and a facelift I'm Afraid

Posted Mar 19, 2012
Pros: The bed was dry as a board and hard as a board too
Cons: The black mould in the bathroom and on the shower head
Location: Lovely sea view and very close to town centre
The hotlel is very tired with much better alternatives available at similar prices. My room's bathroom was filthy with black mould on the tiles and the shower head had a thick build-up of black mould surrounding the jets. Probably the first time I've ever still felt dirty after I got OUT of the shower. I was too tireds to ask for a room change but doubt that any of the other rooms would have been much higher standard. I'm sorry to say this old classical hotel is suffering from lack of attention and is what most people imagine an old seaside hotel in the UK to be like.

central location

Good location close to beach, shops, pubs etc. Room had everything you need, plenty of storage space for clothes, the bed was very comfortable. There was a bath and shower, enough clean towels provided. Room was clean apart from the windows which were very dirty and there was some mould round seal of bath. Overall enjoyed my stay in Southport and at this hotel and would stay there again.
