Nice hotel close to Regent St, Oxford St, theatres

Posted Nov 28, 2016
Pros: Room and bathroom a good standard, good continental breakfast and perfect location within walking distance of shops and theatres.
Cons: A doubt anything can be done about it, but during the night there is a feint noise from the tube line.
Location: Great location close to Regent Street, Oxford Street and many theatres.
Spacious room and clean, nice bathroom. Welcoming reception and staff. Breakfast plentiful, nice, simple continental variety. Storage area for cases after checkout. Great location in central London.

Lovely staff, but aging hotel in great locale

Posted Nov 8, 2016
Pros: The staff were very friendly, amenable and willing to help out however they could. The service was top-notch all around. Couldn't fault them in any way. The cleaning staff were also the most attentive I've seen in London — The place was spotless, from the lobby, to the rooms and corridors, to the breakfast room, not a spec of dust to be seen and everything kept fresh. The continental breakfast in the morning was delightful. Plenty of croissants, teas, cereals, buns and juices. As for the location, it's a 10-15 minute walk from the heart of Oxford Circus, Marylebone, and Soho, about 10 minutes from the nearest tube station, and in a fairly quiet street with fantastic connections. We needed to visit the Swedish Embassy, so we spent the morning in Regent's Park (about 12 minutes away), and then pondered to the Embassy and back to the hotel, all in a stone's throw away.
Cons: Regrettably, the hotel itself needs the same care and attention. While impeccably clean — the cleaning staff work tirelessly to keep it very presentable and fresh — the hotel's age shows in the rooms and upper floors. The lobby and sub-ground level meeting rooms and breakfast rooms are attractive and well-kept, but the rooms themselves and the corridors are a little shabby and in need of a fresh lick of paint on every surface, from doors to skirting boards to walls and windowsills. Similarly, the rooms, while ornate and spacious, felt dated and a bit unkempt — Paint peeling on the doors, dated tiles, chipped wood and scraped paint. We had an apartment room (2 large double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen), but only one radiator as the others were blocked in by covers that had long since been painted shut, which as you can imagine meant for a chilly November stay. Additionally, there was a noise problem. The windows were single-glazed (again, chilly!), letting in noise. Thankfully Hallam Street is fairly quiet. However, the underground runs directly beneath the hotel and as a result there was a fairly loud (we were on the 3rd floor — I pity those on lower floors) rumble of a train passing every 10 minutes or so. They do provide free new earplugs in every room, though. Probably not ideal for any type of family group. Couples (like us) would be alright however.
Location: 10-15 minutes from Oxford Circus, Soho, Marylebone, Regent's Park and a slew of Embassies. Perfect location, really.

Fantastic hotel in the centre of all the action

Loved the hotel. Location is fantastic and the room was very spacious with a comfy bed. Staff were super friendly, the only thing I would recommend is an AC for the room! It was very hot and I couldn't get the window to open, but that's a minor considering the close proximity to the clubs, bars, restaurants and shops
