Our 2 night stay at Barry House in mid-July

Posted Sep 27, 2015
Pros: The location, the comfortable room and the very friendly staff.
Cons: A lift would improve the experience for elderly people but we managed fine without one.
Location: The location near Paddington Station allows for easy transport via the Tube. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are within easy walking distance.
The best feature of Barry House is its proximity to Paddington Station and also to the tranquil surroundings of Hyde Park. We spent several hours strolling through Kensington Gardens alongside the Serpentine Lake, then back via Lancaster Gate and past the Mews to our Hotel in Sussex Place. Apart from its excellent location, Barry House has very friendly staff and the breakfast menu is more than ample. As my wife and I are both 70+, we thought that being allotted a first floor room in a hotel without a lift and with a rather steep staircase might pose a problem. However, thanks to the friendly and helpful staff, who even allowed us to leave our luggage in a secure ground floor office after a.m. check-out on the last day, we need not have had any concerns. Our suitcases were brought up to our room on the first evening by the owner's son and the staff generally could not do enough to provide help whenever we needed it.

Economical. Good place to stay.

Posted Sep 23, 2015
Pros: Proximity to all the things I wanted to see and do.
Cons: I know it is not possible physically, but an elevator would be wonderful.
Location: Good restaurants and a good variety of them. Easy to get to the Tube. Major tourist attractions are a few stops away.
Good place to stay if you want to be near an area (Paddington) that has an active night life. Also good if you just want a place to crash each night of your visit and don't mind small rooms with communal bath facilities. Close to good restaurants and notable stops on the Tube (Circle Line). The breakfasts are hearty and good. The staff is accommodating and eager to please. Unfortunately as a single traveler, I was given a very small room on the top floor. That meant 6-7 flights of stairs to climb every day (no elevator). With a large suitcase, or if you have any back problems, that can be a hassle. But the room was tidy& clean and the bed was comfortable. I would stay there again.

Keep door open for ventilation

Posted Sep 3, 2015
Pros: Good location
My room was in the ground floor. When you were out for sightseeing, the hotel staff kept opening your door and window for "ventilation".

Ideal location for transport and restaurants.

Bobby was extremely helpful and patient. He made sure we understood the advice he was giving and offered us the opportunity to clarify anything we did not understand. He is very knowledgeable I'm all aspects of tourism and has a calming manner in dealing with people.

It was pretty run down. I had my doubts about cleanliness...the walls were covered in stains and unknown streaks.

Room at the top, knees knocking after going up and down a couple of times. Missed breakfast because I could not face the extra down and up challenge.

Very pleasant stay at Barry House.

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: The locality and friendliness of the staff.
Cons: The extractor fan in the bathroom was not efficient which made the bathroom smell a little fusty. This however did not spoil our stay.
Location: The main street which was only 200 yards away had bars, shops and restaurants. Hyde Park was a short walk away.
Barry House was ideally located for the British Summertime Concert in Hyde Park. The hotel was in a quiet location and there were bars, shops and restaurants just a short walk away. The staff were very friendly, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. We had a very pleasant stay and would certainly stay there again.

Great location Good breakfast. Bed needs replacing and rooms need a serious update. Personnel were very nice and helpful.
