A scraggy old hotel of the past!

Posted Aug 23, 2015
Pros: Sadly not too much other than it was near one of the most wonderful parks in England and near one of the nicest and safest towns just outside London.
Cons: The lot - lock stick and barrel! New interior, furniture and breakfast. And staff need to know better how to deal and look after issues.
Location: Richmond park is a great place to have a nice loooong walk in. Take a day out with a picnic and enjoy it. But don't use the hotel for London, too far!
Sadly this is NOT the Richmond Gate Hotel of a decade or so ago. The one that always tried to compete with the Petersham Hotel down the road. It now is just a suburban version of something you'd find on any road in central London. All the carpeting, furniture a la has not been renovated in at least 10 if not 15 years! The breakfast is crap for a price I could pay less than half for just down the road in the town! Possibly even less! The staff as determined as they are to help are really not that well trained and tend to be on the defensive when anything isn't right. The infrastructure for reservations is very poor, the room we asked for was not available and we landed up in the three nights we were there changing rooms twice and every night we came back our keys didn't work! The fire alarm went off one night and no apology, their fault or not, was ever given. if the infrastructure was more up to date they could have isolated the situation much better! On top of that if there was indeed a fire I would Lobby areas were so confined as they leased out the only real lobby area to a group of people for some special meeting! One of the lobbies which was a key part of the Richmond Gate Hotel! Bottom line go elsewhere in the area ...maybe the Petersham, or Bloomsbury. Oh and don't get a room on the ground floor in the back awful "view" and darn right dangerous from a security point of view!

close to central Richmond. Just a short talk down

Posted Aug 2, 2015
Pros: Other than the above, I liked everything about the hotel, especially the pool. I have never seen such a great pool in a indoor pool at a hotel. WOW
Cons: Everything was great except for the dinner reservation situation
Location: We love the location. Everything about it was great. The restaurants were great, especially discovering Jamie Oliver's restuarant.
The only criticism I have was that when I wanted to make dinner reservations at the hotel I was told they were booked. I really think that a guest should always be able to have dinner reservations. To make matters worse, when I would pass the dining room it was never filled. The clerk and the front desk offered room service. We had it the first time and it was not really very nice.

Decent hotel, ruined by late night noise

Posted Jul 15, 2015
Pros: Swimming pool
Cons: Sort out the noise. Really, this is a big problem.
It's an OK hotel, nothing really that special. Rooms are small but functional. However the deal breaker is the noise at this hotel. We stayed two nights. First night there was a very rowdy group outside the hotel between 8pm and 11pm. This was on the hotel site - staff did nothing. Second night all the fire alarms went off late at night - this seems to be a regular thing according to the staff. The noise from guests is an issue. I recently stayed at the neighbouring hotel and experienced the same noise coming from this hotel. This hotel does however have a nice sports club with a nice pool. It's ok but not great. I wouldn't stay again.

Great location but needs a few pounds spent on it.

Posted Jul 12, 2015
Pros: Great location by Richmond Park and a .8m walk down the hill to the town with spectacular views over the Tames (on the walk not from the hotel!).
Cons: Sort out the issues in the bedroom and bathroom
Location: Loads of good places to eat and drink in Richmond and a good riverside walk
The room and bathroom had both seen better days. Paint peeling in patches on the ceiling and black mold around the bath. Couldn't fill the bath from the tap had to use the shower. Bedroom wall stained from leak from the AC unit. Small and badly tuned TV. Overnight parking (and well into the next day) for only £5

Richmond Hill Open Gardens Weekend

Posted Jun 3, 2015
Pros: On top of Richmond Hill a great location next to Richmond park, great views as well.
Cons: As an Expedia customer we always seem to be near the laundry room whatever hotel we stay in! This time we were opposite and woken up by the staff!
Location: Richmond Park, the town and river. We have been to the area many times and will keep returning.
A repeat visit for us.This time to coincide with the Richmond Hill Open Gardens event.

Quaint hotel in a beautiful location

Posted May 3, 2015
Pros: Location and charm of the place.
Cons: Since the hotel is an older building, there are stairs to navigate with no ramps or lifts. If you have heavy luggage, be prepared to lift.
Location: Location is near parks, pubs, restaurants, shopping and transportation which will link you with the rest of London and England.
The Richmond Gate is located at the crest of the hill overlooking the River Thames and the town of Richmond. The hotel is convenient to the Richmond Park, a wonderful pub called the Lass O' Richmond Hill, and is a short walk to downtown Richmond where shops and restaurants are plenty. The Richmond station is a 10-15 minute walk away also and offers Underground, Overground, and train services. There is also a bus stop located a few steps away from the entrance of the hotel. The hotel offers 3 meals and tea service along with direct access to a sports club with cardio, weights, swimming pool, hot tub, and spa services. Overall, a wonderful place to stay complete with English charm and full service amenities.

Outer London Trip

Very polite and helpful staff, we used this as a base to go to Hampden Court Palace and other local places of interest. Parking is always an issue in London but hotel has own parking for only a £5 per day rate.
