Fantastic hotel let down by the staff

Posted Feb 15, 2017
Pros: Facilities
Cons: Staff. They were quite poor, lacked sufficient training and awareness. Food seemed expensive for what you got - a cheese platter was very minimalist!
Location: Beautiful location for walks and shopping. Feels like you are in the countryside when in London.
The facilities are excellent; the hotel was beautiful, the room was my ideal room (crisp sheets, wonderful mattress, wonderful duvet... I could happily stay there all day!). However the staff let this hotel down so much. The staff aren't lazy (I didn't see a mobile phone once, nor idle chatting), they certainly aren't rude, but they lack basic training, awareness and an ability to listen properly to guests. The hotel use room names (we stayed in "Ernst Loosen" for example) but I've had to repeat these names several times to staff members, as did my parents in law who were also staying in the hotel. It begs the question whether the staff know their own rooms, or should they stick to numbering them for their ease! We were continuously brought things we didn't order, or wrong orders. A pot of peppermint tea turned up, it even took us a few minutes to realise we hadn't ordered it! For breakfast we were served by the manager, after multiple times of repeating the room name to him, we sat down and ordered. I asked for a glass of water, as I was unfortunately suffering from a migraine. The glass of water never appeared. I went to track him down and he'd disappeared, probably to another part of the hotel. I asked another waitress for the water who got it for me. It does raise the question of communication amongst the staff - even the manager didn't communicate my order efficiently before disappearing. A full English appeared without any toast or bread. [ive run out of space!]

Thank you for your email. Naturally I am disappointed to read your comments but wanted to assure you that we do listen and indeed the staff member you are referring to is no-longer with the hotel. I am confident that all the points you mention will be addressed with the new manager and I hope that this will not stop you from returning.

Business Trip

Posted Sep 10, 2016
Pros: Location was good, nice surroundings
Cons: Possibly some staff attitudes
Location: Wimbledon high street is a short walk away with everything you need..
Hotel was a very nice stay, lovely surroundings and accommodation was very nice aswell. you also had full use of the SKY channels in your room, which was excellent for me as it had the STAR WARS & STAR TREK channels being viewed, so was well entertained as I stayed for 5 nights (too long for a London trip)? The only snag I had was a few of the waiter staff where a little off hand and my first night I sat down on a table to eat and I was ignored several times, so I got back up after 10 mins and went somewhere else. I did however have a some food in the hotel a few times and it seemed quite nice. Also had to move rooms due to extreme noise & Music coming from a wedding function.

Great surroundings, poor service on this occasion

Posted Sep 2, 2016
Stayed here mid-week on business, was greeted by very friendly staff to offered to help with my bags and showed me to my room. Everything from the lobby to the room was beautiful and clean, and I unpacked my suitcase feeling I'd made a good choice. I'd been travelling all day so decided I was in no mood to formally sit down for dinner, and instead opted for room service. This is where things started to fall down, as I couldn't get through to the bistro or reception using the room phone, and after several attempts instead had to call the main hotel booking line from my mobile. The food arrived (steak frites) and was very nice for what it was, however when it arrived my drink was missing from the order. Again no joy on the room phone, so had to call reception from my personal phone. I slept well and breakfast was lovely the following morning. Checkout was also quick and cheerful. I'd definitely stay here again as the hotel is great, however great hotels must deliver on all fronts and the small details matter!
