The Ritz London

We stayed at the Ritz for 3 nights while sightseeing in London on our way back to the US from a Europeaan River Cruise. The location of the hotel was great for walking to all the near by sights and shopping areas. We did not need to take a bus or taxi to get to things. The hotels decor was similar to the many Ritz we have stayed in the past. However, we were extremely disappointed to learn on our arrival that the hotel has a strict dress code to enter into the lounge area, dining areas and the hotel bar. No tennis shoes, denim or shorts are allowed. Since we were there in early September it was hot and we were walking all over London sightseeing in our walking and sightseeing clothes. Needless to say during our entire stay we never got past the reception area except to walk to the stairs or elevator to go to our room! I would say that this hotel is not for the tourist visiting London but for the business traveler that is in a suit or business attire. When I was stopped from entering the bar (because I had tennis shoes and nice shorts on) to have a drink before going upstairs to change for dinner it was insulting. Due to this dress code I would never stay at the Ritz London again! In addition, I did not find that our junior suite was prepared for the 21st century. It was difficult to find a plug in the room to plug our phones into. When we did they were in difficult locations where you could not have your phone anywhere close to the bed.
