A Lovely Inn in Peckham

The corridors were narrow, upstairs downstairs, a bit of an adventure if you are used to straight lines and motels that are quite frankly efficient, soul-less and forgettable. This is an old building, It feels like it and suited me well. The staff weren't just friendly they were friendly people not 'have a nice day' cardboard cut-outs. A minute's stroll away from a cluster of shops, cafes, a few other pubs, not far (six minutes walk) from the station. London's sights and crowds are 15-20 minutes away by train (Victoria station) but here things are quiet. There's a sort of West Indian feel to the shops and eateries by Peckham Rye station. Jerk chicken, yams, but the immediate environs of the inn are quietly London. Quite hard to define. Cosmopolitan, no neon, small gardens, gentle...perhaps a bit dull if you live there. But for a visitor, in its way ,about the best place I have encountered in London that serves good food, proper beer and is affordable!
