Charming British Inn

We were welcomed even before we arrived with an exchange of emails responding with willingness to accommodate my request for an early check in (arriving in London early in the day from a transatlantic flight). When we did arrive, a very nice young woman assigned us to a lovely room in the back on the ground floor ("where it will be quiet, so you can get some sleep") and hustled the cleaning staff to finish the room pronto. This was a first in many arrivals overseas, and much appreciated.
The small parlor is across the entry hall from the bar-cafe, and all are decorated with warmth, lots of dark wood, beautiful lighting, a working fireplace in the parlor, vases, books, and trinkets about. Two daily newspapers are provided in the parlor, and tea/coffee in one's room. Although breakfast is available on site, we chose to patronize a pub around the corner, and other choices abound in the neighborhood (dinner at the Indian/Pakistani restaurant across from the pub was utterly delicious).
The bathroom we had was spacious and modern. It and the room were kept spotless. The room itself was pretty and comfortable. Off in a corner with only one adjacent room, we heard no noise from the hotel. The noise out the window was occasionally disruptive. The room was uncomfortably warm at night, so we had to keep the window open, which did let in some light & noise (not much of a hardship). Some staff knowledgeable, some not, but all are nice & try to help. A bit pricey for us but well worth it.
