A Nice Hotel Worth Every Penny
Posted Jan 26, 2015This hotel is conveniently located---right behind M&S, close to Waitrose, good restaurants and bus stop nearby. It is clean and well-managed. The bed is comfortable. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job and the reception staff was friendly and helpful. This hotel is worth every penny I have paid for.

Pros: It offers the usual basic but clean Travelodge accommodation but the staff were of high calibre - welcoming, communicative & helpful.
Cons: Shelf above wardrobe rail too high up for many wheelchair users. No electrically operated doors so was dependent on staff to open doors for me.
Location: I was visiting family & did not explore locally.
I stayed on my own from 11 October for 5 nights & would happily stay there again. All staff bent over backwards to ensure I felt welcome to ask for any assistance I needed. Particularly noteworthy was the reliable communication between staff from one shift to the next. I stayed in wheelchair accessible room 105, just a short corridor from Reception & Cafe Bar. It's a corner room at rear with adequate turning space, overlooking trees & furthest (quietest) end of car park. I found the bed evenly sprung & comfortable with a sufficiently firm edge for transfers. Wet room had numerous grab rails + 2 coat hooks on wall at different heights, a drop-down seat in shower area, shower curtains & height-adjustable shower head + emergency cords there & next to bed. Bed bases had 14 cm high cut-outs for any portable hoist. Accessible from my wheelchair were the open-plan wardrobe rail (132 cm off the ground), electric sockets, lights switches, window & curtains, full-length wall mirror & easily controlled heating panel. 2 security peepholes in door, 1 at wheelchair user height. No phone in the room but staff gave me telephone number for Reception to use from my mobile phone. I had only a light breakfast so can't comment on the cooked meals there.

Bare bones hotel

Pros: Reception staff were very friendly , bathroom was very clean and modern.
Cons: No phone in room or pay phone In hotel anywhere, free wifi only in lobby and bar area and it didn't work that well. Mattress was uncomfortable.
Location: Location was okay but we had a hard time finding it - signage could be better.
The room was clean but very, very basic. Coming from North America we had no cell phone with us and there was no phone in the room and not even a pay phone in the whole hotel. The person on reception the night we checked in was very helpful and let us use his phone so that I could call my niece. Free wifi in bar area didn't work too well. Mattress was not comfortable.
