Cool hotel that needs a lot of work...
I love the look and feel of the Paper Collective, which is cool and fun. I didn't love that the pillows offer not head support (and when I asked for more pillows, it had to be multiple times), the smallness of the shower that caused flooding all the time, or the rudeness of the front desk staff. I will say the maintenance and housekeeping staff were gems -- friendly, attentive, and overall wonderful. The bar or restaurant was never open, so I can't weigh in on that. The coffeemaker in our room worked occasionally, as did the elevator. Loved the gym, the location, and the aesthetic, but I'm curious as to why I should stay again considering that all the basics -- sleeping accommodations, bathroom, etc. -- aren't really up to par?

The hotel was right by the subway entrance. If you plan on going to Manhattan for the majority of your trips, it's only 20 minutes subway and a 2-5 min walk to the nearest entrance. Room was spacious, but kind of ?? that you could tell the ceiling was sloppily fixed from leakage. Also kind of annoying that they start you off with only two towels and a like 2 bottles of shampoo/etc despite our room having a queen king bed which obviously meant there were at least 4 people staying.... staff acted annoyed that we kept having to ask for more towels. But other than that staff wasn't rude and the place was decent- maybe not as a four star hotel.

This hotel is close to several train stations so it’s very easy to get anywhere. The room was quite small but worth the price we paid. I would stay here again based on location and value.

No brainer/best in Queens/NYC
This has to be the best deal in all of NYC. This probably wouldn't be the place for first timers to the city but you will not find another place with as much room as the Paper Factory. We absolutely loved it!

Cool aesthetic. Room was austere and barebones. Our door was found open when we returned from a day out. Cleaning had been in, so I expect they forgot to close it. This is a major safety concern and I'd like a refund for 1 night of the stay.

Property was only on heat and room was almost 80 degrees. front desk said there was nothing they could do about it. Very uncomfortable, we had to leave as we could not tolerate the high temperature of the room

Watch out if you have loud neighbors
During our recent stay, we were woken up by extremely loud neighbors at 4:15am. We called the front desk to take care of the issue, but nothing changed. The neighbors stayed loud, and we contacted the front desk again at 4:50am. The front desk offered us a different room, but it was 4:45 in the morning and my traveling companion had an important event the next day. My companion had ear plugs and was able to somewhat sleep through the disturbances, and changing rooms would have meant waking up fully to pack and move - making the situation even worse (I did not have ear plugs and had to fully deal with the loudness). The hotel should have removed the guests at this point. This didn’t happen and the guests remained loud until 6:15am. I emailed the manager and requested a refund because the hotel failed to deliver a good experience. The hotel should have removed the guests, and upon failing to do so, the hotel should have granted the refund we requested. Instead, the manager told us that since we turned down moving rooms at 4:45am, that he wouldn’t refund our stay. When hotels.com contacted the hotel asking for a refund on our behalf, the manager again said no and denied any refund. Furthermore, the manager said that hotels.com could request a refund as often as they’d like, but the answer would always be no. This is reprehensible customer service by the manager. It was the hotel’s responsibility to take care of the problem. It was not our responsibility - as the injured party -

It’s a cool building! Unique space. A bit of a distance from restaurants and shopping. Taxi and Uber are the best ways to get around. Walking was faster than catching the metro. I didn’t interact with staff much, but they were nice. Not sure what the charges were for after I checked out. Building felt safe but I felt I had to be alert and cautious walking around the area. Would love it if they offered a continental breakfast. Seemed like bar/restaurant area is still shut down for health safety. I love Queens area and will probably be back.

They sold the place. It is not the Collective Paper Factory anymore, so there is false advertising. Nothing in the lobby is open (food, restaurant, coffee, bar) , because they are looking for vendors. The room was not well cleaned ( long hair in corners from a prior guest). The place looks run down. The little staff they have was very friendly and nice, bit there is only so much they can do in a place that needs so much.

Had to ask to clean the room. Had to ask for clean towels or they would let you stay with your towel from the first day. Had to change rooms the first day toilet did not flush. Had a Resturant but was vacated. Look like they are not doing well putting in cost cutting measures. To stay afloat. That was my overall feeling.7

Good location
I chose to stay in Queens because I wanted to be able to park my car on the street and have access to Manhattan. This hotel is in a good location- for that- close to the R/W train and the N/Q- so easy to get into the city. The hotel itself- was nice. Restaurant/bar is NOT open, but there are plenty of places to sit outside your room. Rooms were large, desk, tv, good wifi. You do need to speak up if you want your room cleaned (I am fine with not having someone every day). The mattress is basic and the noises inside the hotel can be loud (bring ear plugs- it is an ongoing two tone thing through out the night/evening). Hotel staff is nice (though not all are knowledgeable). I would definitely stay here again when I return to the city.

the place is clean and convenient but water pressure is terrible i stayed 4 days and not once did housekeeping show up when i asked about getting clean sheets and towels for my room because my wife and kids where coming to stay with me till Christmas eve. the answer i got is that im not on the list to have my room tended to but its on the list for the day after check out.I was fgiven a bag of sheets and towels none of which smelled to clean. like i said NO AMMEMNITIES no bar no restaurant TERRIABLE WATER PRESSURE TO TAKE SHOWER Hot water took forever to get to shower In the front of the room towards the door the heat blows out The windows are so drafty the temp was 20* colder also the elevator jumps up and down over 2" creating a tripping hazard I wont be back

The gold status is worth less than anything you can imagine. Although if upgrade, free drink or recognition of it is not what you are looking for, this is a great property

Wow! I had an amazing stay. Staff was awesome. Had housekeeping when I needed it, including new towels extra coffee, water, shampoo. great view from 5th floor, amazing huge lobby, you can’t check in earlier than 3pm and check out is 11am. Definitely booking here again. Restaurants are walking distance. Such a great area! If you do come early they can hold your luggage before you check in and even after you check out if you are waiting for your flight to leave and need to kill some time.

Byłem w tym hotelu 8 lat temu i było super. Obecnie bar i restauracja zamknięte. Smutna pani na recepcji jak w podrzędnym hotelu. Czystość obiektu względnie utrzymana ale sprzątanie pokoju jedynie na żądanie. Żeby zamówić coś do jedzenia trzeba wyjść z hotelu i szukać na własna rękę. Generalnie nie polecam, podejrzewam że koniec tego hotelu jest bliski.

Great location and idea, but too minimalistic
This is the second time staying here (but this time did a standard room vs superior), and while it was "fine", it wasn't really comfy. The pros are that it's a great location and the room / hotel was great concept, just felt like they stopped before finishing the final touches. The challenges are that it's beyond minimalistic. Walking in the room there's no welcome / guest book of things, no note pads, and it almost looks like someone took everything but the furniture. There was a coffee machine and a nice TV, but it just felt sparse / bare, which led to it not being cozy. I will echo the same comments as others, saying the bed isn't that comfortable and the pillows SUCK. Secondly, there isn't AC per my experience and reading others experiences in reviews. While it wasn't too hot when we where there, it was SUPER humid, and no way to get the humidity out / room comfortable with no AC (only heater). This also meant no airflow. We opened the windows which got us some air but ALSO all of the humidity and noise. We stayed only 2 nights but didn't get housekeeping service even though we always saw carts in the hallway. I am still unclear as to it was offered nightly or not. Cleanliness was "okay" at best. The building felt very empty as the restaurant / bar area look nearly abandoned and no real activity at the hotel. While that's nice, the room wasn't a place that was great to hang out in given the temperature / humidity issues and uncomfortable bed.

The beds were rock hard, the pillows were non-existent. They refused to let us turn on the air conditioning. We walked into the room and it was 90 degrees, with the heat blasting, while it was 20 degrees outside. Their explanation was that it was coming cold at night and said the best we could do was open the windows for cooler air. With that came a lot of noise and not a lot of sleep, on top of the beds that felt like you were sleeping on cement. There are zero amenities here too. We had to request twice for cleaning to get done. The only benefit is the subway is close by, but I will never stay here again and would never recommend it for others.
