Stumptown Roasters and a kickass neon sign? 10/10. This amazing dessert was served in a fishbowl, just like the other five courses. Lights in the LACMA plaza The La Brea Tar Pits (or Rancho La Brea Tar Pits) are a cluster of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed, in urban Los Angeles. Asphaltum or tar (brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved as bones. The six-course menu began with this award-winning trout row salad served in a fishbowl for two. A disc of snap-pea infused ice covered the bowl, but was easily cracked and sent down to mix with lemon custard, frozen yogurt powder, dried lemon thyme meringue, onion bulbs, and pea vines. A truly unique and fantastic dish where every bite was a bit different and always tasty. LACMA features a World Cup exhibition right now, and this was my favorite piece.
