Great location away from the madness

Posted Jan 3, 2017
Pros: Location as could walk into town in one direction, Main Street in the other, to the Beach, Pier and only 30 minutes from LAX.
Cons: More things happening in the hotel ...ie New Years Eve was really flat as nothing offered at the hotel and very cold out - ie a 2 for one NY Eve Cockt
Location: shopping. beach, walks, easy access to LAX, train and buses
Lovely big room, excellent Spa with lots of facilities and very helpful staff.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Posted Jan 3, 2017
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Knock it down and build anything in its place
Location: Good location
This is quite simply the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It looked like a cross between a cruise ship and an upscale prison. It was embarrassing. The reason I am writing this review to let everyone know how bad it is because I was promised $150 off my bill because I couldn't check in until NINE PM! But now I found out it was credit for food and drink. But I couldn't spend it anyway because my girlfriend hated it so much, we couldn't bare being anywhere in the hotel except the room itself.

Noisy construction, then noisy traffic

Posted Dec 30, 2016
We were initially put in a room in a wing undergoing renovation. Construction noise from 8am to 5pm. We complained and got moved to a room overlooking the noisy street. Not a very restful setting, despite being so close to the beach. Very disappointing given how expensive this hotel is.

Poor Attitude and Service

Posted Dec 14, 2016
We had specifically told them that it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary and asked for a decent room. We have stayed at this hotel for two weeks most years in the last five and have been there at times when renovations were happening etc but nothing as poor as this year. We were given a room overlooking an alley where the bins were kept and with buildings directly opposite, the hotel room windows had no nets or curtains only wooden slats so it effectively meant you had to dress in darkness each day. The worst part of all was the attitude of the staff, right from check in actually, as they just didn't seem to care and didn't even look up from the counter when we were told that we may be able to move but it would cost a further $50 dollars a night. It is difficult to explain on a review such as this but it was just the way they spoke the words - 'with attitude' would be the best description. We checked out after one night and relocated to another hotel for the remainder of our stay. To be fair the Manager on the counter tried his best to see if there was anything that they could do when we checked out but by this time the damage was done. We would not stay there again I'm afraid and would simply suggest to you all that there is a whole host of choice of hotels in Santa Monica (all with equally good locations) and we would suggest that you use one of those rather than the Loews. Loews you really need to train your front counter staff so much better and change their attitude.

Issues

Posted Dec 11, 2016
There was remodeling going on the entire 8th floor (and on the 7th floor where we were staying)we felt like it was in our room itself because it was so loud, annoying, and lasted all day long. The ocean view rooms do have a lovely view, but they are also loud for a few reasons, even loud through closed glass sliding door. There is loudspeaker top40 music all day by the pool that is pretty dreadful if your e resting or working in your room. Then on weekends there is loud live music for patio guests. So if you're desiring a quiet stay, I'd suggest street view rooms! Also the king rooms have nice space. But the 2 queen rooms are very very tight. The beds are jammed in with 1 tiny shared night table that are so tightly packed it's difficult to open the one drawer. The mattresses are off center from their beds because it simply is too poorly designed in such a small space. In the King room you get 2 nite stands and a nice L shaped sofa. The double queen has a single chair no sofa. The showers have next to no water pressure, and the doors are glass and flimsy. The service was very good from CheckIn to bell desk to valet to housekeeping and room service. We didn't use the spa or restaurants this trip. The closet is on the small side, but the desk is nice and has great lighting for work.
