Horrible check inPosted Aug 24, 2015
We tried checking in to our room at 2:45pm on Saturday and were told it would be ready at 3pm. We went back to get our room key at 3:10 and were told the room was still not ready. It took an additional 40 minutes to get our key. Staff was not super accommodating

Birthday Treat!Posted Aug 20, 2015
Gave myself a couple nights to relax at the SM as a bday gift. Was looking for a little luxury & pampering. The rooms were bright, well maintained and spacious, the bed was incredible. Service was good, though no one helped with luggage when I arrived, and it took over an hour for my bag to make it the short 3 flights to my room, but that seemed to be the exception as for the rest of my stay everyone was quite pleasant & helpful. I was very disappointed that they didn't share that the adjacent building was currently under construction which made relaxing at their Villa Pool impossible, jack hammers & Pervy construction men peeping wasn't fun. They do have a second pool, but trust me when I say, the Villa pool is the one in their pics and the selling point pool. The other pool while nice, feels less resort more typical hotel pool like. My advise if you are seeking serenity check status of construction before you book. Knowing my purpose for staying I would probably have picked elsewhere, as I simply wanted a place to unwind and feel like I was somewhere else for a minute or two. Also, charging for wifi these days, and worse charging per devise connection, especially at luxury rated hotels, is ridiculous and unnecessary. We all use/need wifi now call me crazy but I expect that to be standard at any place you are paying to stay these days! Overall it's a very cool place that's fun to check out & feel like you stepped into a Hollywood history lesson in cool!

AMAZING hotel with an equally AMAZING historyPosted Aug 18, 2015
Pros: Location, bed comfort, restaurant, ambiance, staff
Cons: The room had a slightly offensive smell to it... not a bad smell but definitely a strong odor. That would be my ONLY complaint about our stay there.
Location: Easy access to restaurants, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, The Grove and local beaches.
This hotel was one of the highlights of our mother-daughter trip to LA! The history of the hotel gives it a truly unique character... the location is perfect for access to various parts of LA while still being tucked away and off the beaten path... and the staff of the hotel were always courteous and went above and beyond to meet all of our expectations. And what can I say about the bed... it was heaven on earth!

Old but nice hotel right off Sunset StripPosted Aug 10, 2015
Pros: Bed, lunch, decor
Cons: pool seating, room service availability
Location: You're in the heart of hollywood
This is a nice hotel with a great and happy staff. The room was large, modern, and nice, the bed was extremely comfortable. We were a bit disappointed by the pool seating/scene. By the time we checked in, nothing was available, as the pool areas are quite small compared to what I saw on the photos prior to booking. Also, they said they had room service 24/7 and when we came back to the hotel late and hungry around 3:30am, we called to order and they said the kitchen closed early and wouldn't reopen until 5:30am. That was a big bummer. Parking is also very expensive.

Loved it!Posted Aug 6, 2015
Pros: The whole experience. I think we wish we had stayed longer. There was a lot to see and do.Staff very friendly!
Cons: Really, nothing we could add...
Location: ...As explained.. uphill to Sunset Bvd. was a 'keep fit' excercise but well worth the interesting culinary and spectating experiences..
A hotel of 'REAL' character in every respect. I should have realized from the street name but the hotel is on a VERY steep street! It is NOT for the feint hearted because the climb to Sunset Bvd is arduous!!!(but well worth it)We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool. The bathroom was fabulous with glass walls.

good treatment for EVERYBODYPosted Jun 19, 2015 on Hotels
Hubby and I always stay at luxury hotels when we travel, but we don't "look like we belong", therefore we are used to being treated badly. NOT THE CASE here! We were treated just as well as anybody and I can't put into words how much it's appreciated. We had fairly bad service at the hotel resturant but the manager bent over backwards to correct it WITHOUT hearing a complaint from us. He offered us complimentary desserts and drinks but we declined so he took several things off our tab without prompting. Thank you Sunset Marquis for making us feel like people even through our tattoos and tshirts
