Enjoyed my stay at Hotel Mar De Cortez. Close to just about everything. Staff very nice. Very clean . I wish they would have had a hairdryer and microwave in the rooms.

Upon arriving at the mar de Cortez I was immediately greeted by a terrible stench in the lobby of the hotel. It was old, dark and run down. As we walked to our room the poor had a film of dirt floating atop. The room itself smelled like a sewer. Everything was beyond out dated. The sheets and bed looked as if they had never been changed. My friend and I could not stay there. I felt as if it was hazardous for our health. We ended up taking an Uber and finding more accommodating and safe lodgings for ourselves. I’m very disappointed as this trip was for my birthday and I was unable to get a refund from the mar de Cortez prompting me to have to spend additional money. I don’t think this hotel should be featured on Expedia as it is very misleading and as a young single women truly caused me to feel unsafe. The other guests were mostly men and the hotel staff allow non residents to pass through the hotel freely. I’d like to discuss possible compensation options. We ended up at the Hampton Inn. Thankfully they had a room or else I would’ve had to return home.

The hotel is very close to the restaurants and clubs. Staff is very attentive. They can update a couple of things in the hotel including bedding.

Clean, Central, Budget-Friendly Stay
The Good: -Very friendly and helpful staff! -Arranged and provided transit/escort to COVID testing. -Tasty breakfast and happy hour deals. -Mini-fridge in room. -Budget-friendly - an absolute steal compared to some resorts! -Noise - for being so central to downtown and other attractions, there was much less sound than I would have anticipated. Could Improve: -One of the beds was rock solid and very uncomfortable. I assumed both would be the same, but discovered after 1 night that the second bed was significantly softer - so check both! -Security - There is a deadbolt on room, but it could only be engaged from inside the room. There is 24/7 staffing in the lobby, but if someone was walking confidently they could pretty easily bypass them. -Area - Walking distance from the marina and bars, but consider carefully if that's what you're really looking for. This was my first trip to Cabo, and I discovered that wasn't my vibe at all. -Shower - the shower head is quite low, so if you're tall be prepared to duck. Hot water is also iffy, though I've heard this is a problem throughout Cabo even at more expensive resorts.
