Great stay

Posted Apr 23, 2017
Very nice hotel did the all inclusive deal and loved it. The food was great and the staff was friendly, the service around the pool was a lacking a little and the main restuant food was very good but service again was a little slow for me the between finishing and signing the bill. Maids could have done a better job but overall awesome trip and would come back.

Over paid & over rated

Posted Apr 23, 2017
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Staff compassion, caring instead of just doing a job required by corporate. Everything needs improvement.
Location: Located in between two higher rated facilities and all in the same ownership. Disappointing.
This hotel was overrated and too expensive for the stay. It is old, did not accommodate my friend with a heart condition, Three stories and many steps. No offer to assist medical needs. Staff ok but lacked interest to assist guest. Hotel is old, pools and room plumbing breaking down and leaking toilets. The room rate was $53.00 less at the time we stayed. The staffing did not advise of the time the airport transportation ($21.00) would leave thus having to take a taxi ($89.00). Basically no one cared about the guests.

Dear Joy; Thank you for taking your valuable time to share your experience. I apologize if your experience at our resort was not what you expected it would be. I am surprised to read your feedback; our staff always do the best to accommodate our clients´ request and even when the transportation to the airport is a public service, we do organize some shuttle service under a schedule and promote it though our concierge and front staff. It will be my pleasure to assist you and find the way to reverse the imagen you have from us, please feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you again for your visit. Sincerely Luis Alvarez General Manager

Conveniently located near the marina. You can't swim at the beach but the pool has a great view of the ocean. The staff was super friendly and always willing to help with anything. Most of the meals we had at the hotel were good with the exception of the buffet.

Older hotel but very nice

Posted Apr 17, 2017
Solmar is the oldest of three hotel properties all clustered together - Playa Grande (which has a huge timeshare clientele, Grand Solmar and Solmar. Solmar's interiors are a little dated and the beds and pillows could be a little more comfortable but the room was clean and very conveniently located. I enjoyed the Bonfire event on the beach on Tuesday evening. The staff were extremely accommodating - everyone said hello, asked if they could help or assist in any way and if I was having a good time. Playa Grande is much bigger and more modern but also a little less personal. I did enjoy a massage at the Playa Grande spa. Personally I liked Grand Solmar the best. The property is absolutely gorgeous and had the Mexican flair I hoped to find on my vacation. The patio outside the sports bar had nightly musical entertainment and small seating areas with fire pits. A lovely way to spend a few hours relaxing. And I highly recommend La Roca restaurant. I had dinner there my last evening. It is situated right on the beach so I watched the sunset and the waves crash just a few feet from my table. The food was absolutely delicious and my dessert came with the message "Have a nice trip" written in chocolate. The perfect way to end my vacation. I will definitely go back!

The staff was exceptionally polite and eager to help you in any way without being intrusive. We enjoyed the on site restaurant and also loved visiting the restaurant next door at the PlayaGrande..... so nice to be able to use your room # at the 'sister resorts'. The rooms are large and comfortable. It was also fun to be able to walk down town in 10 minutes.....stroll down the Marina. Solmar was perfect for us!

Nice hotel on the beach..

Posted Apr 3, 2017
This was our second time traveling to Solmar, and this time was even better. Everyday at both restaurants we were greeted like they had known us our entire life. Solmar is very small, and very quaint. We will continue to visit this place every year as long as we can. Only complaint is that some of the salesman from Grand Solmar can be a little brash/tactless, but for the most part you don't even know they are there.

4 Couples celebrating a "milestone" birthday

Posted Apr 2, 2017
Pros: The staff was friendly & helpful, our 1-BR suite with ocean view (room 2583) was awesome, the fiesta night was fun, check-out was surprisingly fast.
Cons: The service in the dining room was very slow. I don't expect American service that often feels rushed, but drink orders & coffee refills took ages.
Location: The location is our favorite in Cabo - away from the bars, main beach, and cruise ship / marina crowds - especially during Spring Break!
My wife and I first stayed at the Solmar 35 years ago on our first trip to Cabo. We loved the basic accommodations and our walks on the empty beach in front of the hotel. As everyone knows, Cabo has changed a lot since then and several of the old hotels (Hotel Cabo, Twin Dolphins) have been completely demolished and the coastline filled with new resorts. There's still plenty of places in Baja that are still have have the original Cabo vibe. We took a drive out to the East Cape and saw plenty of empty beaches and quiet towns. On this stay, we chose the all-inclusive option because we were planning to hang around the hotel most of the time. The food & drink was plentiful and more than adequate quality. The main pool was noisy due to a few Spring Break groups (one of which got thrown out of the hotel) but there's an upper pool with a bar/cafe that's really quiet. We also like the low-rise layout of this hotel which allows you to get everywhere without long walks or waits for an elevator.

Great location. Very Scenic.

Posted Mar 26, 2017
Pros: Small but very charming easy to walk around. Good food but need more variety. Should have share privileges with Grand Solmar, not Playa Grande.
Cons: More accommodation options. Need more sleep options such as full or double beds instead of sofa sleepers. Also need more nightlife.
Location: Great location near marina and shopping.
The hotel was great until the spring breakers arrived. They took over the whole pool area and were very annoying. They were in a room next to us and very loud. Thank god we were leaving the next day or would have changed rooms. Also not much to do at night unless you went to town. They should have a bar where you can listen to music and have an after dinner drink. Everything closes up so early. Too quiet. Wish the beach was easier to walk on.

An older resort type hotel...

Posted Mar 21, 2017
Pros: The staff was friendly ...
Cons: Back off on the property sales push at check in
Location: A long walk into town and ridiculous taxi fares
The room had lots of anomalies .... the one-way privacy glass to the bathroom was backwards - you could see in from the bedroom but not out. Weird. The TV was up too high for comfortable viewing and the reception was dismal. The safe was at the bottom of the closet so you had to get on your hands and knees to enter the codes. The bedroom was flooded with light each morning from the bathroom window.... no way to black out. The big detractor was having to pay for WIFI. At $330 a night room rate, you need to provide the WIFI.
