Great placePosted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: It's style. It reminded me of Poirot- Art Deco and a little bit of tlc
Cons: I can't think of anything. I wished we had eaten there one night- the gala buffet sounded good.
Location: There are lots of designer shops, restaurants , bars and 10 km of sandy beach, across the road. We particularly liked the Cassablanca restaurant
Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. We booked a triple room and had a mini suite- two doubles with a lounge and bathroom. The room was spotless. We did have a problem with the air conditioning the first night and this was fixed immediately. We were also given a fan, just in case, but we didn't need it. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast was excellent, loads of choice for all tastes and eggs to order too. All the staff in the hotel were courteous, professional and provided excellent service. The pool and garden were extremely well kept and very relaxing. There were plenty of sun loungers and towels were provided. Lovely beach across the road. Lucca nearby is worth a visit. It's a great family resort, very Italian and relaxing. For those who like a bit of class.

Great luxury hotel, opposite promenade and beach.Posted Aug 7, 2015
Pros: Great location and very comfortable, elegant hotel with great facilities. The hotel was about a 20 min walk to the railway station, good for trips.
Location: The hotel was opposite the promenade and beach in Viagreggio, plenty to do or just walk along and take the air in the evenings or during the day.
Elegant Italian hotel, very efficient staff, great facilities, pool and location, lovely food - would most definitely stay at the Grand Royal Hotel, Viareggio again. A very clean, wide promenade was opposite the hotel (and behind that the beach) - nice shops and restaurants and very pleasant to stroll along. The railway station was about 20min walk away, good for direct rail journeys to Florence, Pisa and Lucca. We also went on coach tours with a guide (arranged via the hotel) to Siena and Portofino and saw the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We went on great trips, went on the beach or by the hotel pool - there was plenty to do and we enjoyed our fortnight stay there very much.

good hotel close to beach, restaurants and barsPosted Jul 5, 2015
Pros: It was very attractive, airy and cool and very clean. The staff were very helpful
Cons: The arrangement with the beach proprietor included 2 deckchairs. A sunbed was extra. As the daily cost was already quite high this seemed excessive.
Location: A short walk to the bus station and slightly longer to the train station means its very easy to visit Pisa, Florence, Lucca, Pistoia and Pietrasanta
A comfortable hotel in the centre of the resort. Pleasant places especially a lovely garden to sit, and a nice pool. Good breakfast.

Beeindruckendes HotelPosted Jun 28, 2015
Location: Strandpromenade, Shoppen Essen,
Alles was das Herz begehrt. Absoluter 5 Sterne Standard. Kellner unglaublich fleißig. Einziges Negative.

Close to beachPosted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: The building itself is beautiful, very classic in style, high ceilings and a wonderful staircase
Cons: The breakfast buffet was bland. Hot food was at best warm, the sausages looked like something cheap from a can. Check In was poor with no hotel intro
Location: Lucca is a short drive away and definitely not to be missed. The beaches here though are great and although the sea is not blue its all very relaxing
A beautiful building which faces out to sea and the wonderful promenade which stretches a nice walk in each direction. Plenty of beaches and restaurants to choose from

Fantastic HotelPosted May 22, 2015 on Hotels
Lovely hotel and perfect location, large outside pool. Restaurants and shops across the road and bus stop outside opposite hotel to go back to airport if you choose to bus it, costs just a few euros one way and takes 45 mins approx. Loved the elegance of this hotel. Breakfast was good, waiters were excellent and never had to wait too long to be served. Pool staff lovely. Loved it!!

Still good after 28 yearsPosted May 18, 2015
Pros: We were very pleased with the room, the staff, the facilities and the location. Good, secure parking reasonable at 15 euros a night.
Cons: Buffet expensive at 12 Euros especially as main course low on veg/salad. Didn't seem to be side dishes to add to meal. Will book half board next time.
Location: Hotel location good. Resort not as lovely as before: low season/economic situation? Visit Lucca/Pisa/Florence - drive or use the good transport nearby
I and my family have stayed at the Royal a number of times over many years, and while it was quite a different experience in the 90s (particularly where the food was concerned and no inclusive use of beach facilities), it has retained its charm and slightly faded elegance. It is a lovely hotel with a lovely, peaceful garden with a very clean pool, table tennis. croquet and pool café, which had snacks and drinks at very reasonable prices. The room we were allocated (411) was very large, well appointed and spotlessly clean, and quiet. Bed was huge but a bit hard for us. We requested a high floor, quiet location and got it. The staff were all great as usual. We will return.
