A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the I was truly mesmerized by all the rock formation, specifically stalactites, in this cave which they later called a cavern. I can say I went underground the surface of the earth: 66 feet (51 m). Whaaat! #roadtrip #virgnia #america #LoveMyTown Luray Caverns in Luray, VA #roadtrip Look Close. There are only Stalactites here. What appear to be the stalagmites is a reflection of the ceiling! Lake of Dreams in Luray Caverns. Take a tour 164 feet underground and see remarkable mineral formations. Eight foot tall hedges creating a pathway of puzzlement, misting fog, and endless confusion! Travel past fountains, through hidden tunnels, and over a lookout tower.
Navigate your way through twists and turns while searching for hidden goals on a mission to discover the secret of the maze.
Unravel the mystery of the largest hedge maze in the Mid-Atlantic states - a one acre ornamental garden at Luray Caverns.
It is a fun filled activity for people of all age groups. The Garden of Maze is right next to the Luray Caverns. So if you plan a trip to see Luray Caverns, you can visit the maze too. Just let loose, get lost and be found at the maze ;)
Tip: The view from the lookout tower is beautiful like this one. Just sit back, take in the beauty and relax here. Also, its fun to see people getting lost in the maze ;P Lit formations of Luray Caverns. Increíbles 100% recomendado Luray Caverns Another shot of crystal blue waters 200 feet underground in Luray Caverns. Luray Caverns The reflection pond. My inspiration to reflect on my year and the adventures I have been privileged to be apart of. #reflections The water in the caverns was an amazing shade of blue. Luray Caverns amazing This picture was taken at Luray caverns in Shenandoah National Park. The cavern roof is being reflected in the shallow pool waters below. Do this on a hot day. It's nice and cool down there. Rural areas in Virginia are gorgeous with rolling hills, mountains, valleys, and more. I love to drive around backroads taking in landscape, old barns, and pastures. The water reflections are amazing. When you’re just outside of the Shenandoah Mountains, take your time. Turn down unfamiliar roads—the more rural, the better—and be sure to drive slow enough to look out the windows. Only then will you see these views. Only then will you appreciate the quiet hills and fields. #nature #farming #country Lit formations of Luray Caverns. One of the mallets of The Great Stalacpipe Organ was directly over my head. Instead of pipes, the organ taps stalactites with rubber mallets to produce tones. The natural cavens discovered 700 years ago Incredibly beautiful place The Great Stalacpipe Organ of Luray Caverns. Instead of pipes, the organ taps stalactites with rubber mallets to produce tones. Lit formations of Luray Caverns. #Patterns Symmetry and asymmetry. Looking through these makes it look like a tunnel. The beautiful tiger at the Luray Rescue Zoo. This zoo holds animals that are unable to be cared for any more or should never have become House pets to begin with. The man that owns the place was born and raised in an animal loving family and his respect and love for the animals show through his interactions and knowledge. You can schedule a behind the scenes tour of the zoo if you call ahead. During this tour I was able to pet a porcupine, feeds goats, feed bananas to a lemur, and feed the tiger pictured. An amazing zoo with an amazing story #lurayzoo #rescuezoo Gathering Grounds is a terrific little cafe in Luray, VA. Only a few minutes from Luray Caverns. Very good coffee (only had the brewed). Great sandwiches and baked goods. Amazing space in an old hardware store. If you are anywhere in the area you have to try this one out. Enjoy! The best ribs and pulled pork on Skyline drive.
