While the setting at Peaks at Otter Lodge during Fall colors was spectacular, this is where the praise ends. The Lodge is outdated, understaffed and completely overpriced.
Only dining option was a 60 minute wait upon checkin. No advance reservations were allowed.
At 10:30pm we open the rollaway. We found 10-12 large black bugs. Now we have a disgusting unusable rollaway and bugs have been introduced to our hotel room. The hotel's response: “we are in the mountains.” We were able to track down an off duty manager. Matt (extremely helpful for this late hour) was able to secure us a brand new rollaway along with new sheets and a comforter for the rollaway. (Which reminds me, no comforter was originally delivered for our rollaway AND the room had zero bath towels upon checkin.) Rollaways are only child size, at 5’2” my feet were over the edge of this very small and very uncomfortable (brand new) rollaway. I don’t think the hotel could have purchased a cheaper option!
Hotel had ZERO bottles of water to sell us after dinner?!?! Restaurant was not open for breakfast or lunch, only extremely limited “grab and go” items.
All in all a very disappointing stay. I would give this hotel a PASS and keep driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway, no matter how much farther you have to go!!!
Expedia's answer a $25 credit. Weak! Hotel referred us back to Expedia for compensation. I wish I could upload photos!!
