Good location but definitely not a 4 star hotel

Posted Oct 18, 2014 on Hotels
definitely not a 4 star. The lobby is very nice, modern but once you get to the room lobby, it feels like a hostel because the carpets look so bad that seems patchwork and dirty. I like the pld wondows and doors, but other than that the furniture look very ugly. They need a better designer if they intend to be a 4 star hotel. Other than that the staff were friendly, and the location is superb, central yet quiet.

Good location, hotel needs a big refurbishment

Posted Oct 13, 2014
The hotel is in a good location in the centre of Lyon. However, no working lifts on my visit, all decor and facilities in very old and poor condition. On the plus side, bed was comfortable, clean linen and staff were very friendly.

Nice hotel - poor breakfast

Posted Apr 29, 2014 on Hotels
The Grand Hotel is a very nice hotel, with friendly and professional staff and in a great location. The hotel is somewhat 'tired' and will benefit from the renovations currently going on. What lets the hotel down is an appalling breakfast - 20 Euros for something quite Spartan. If staying there I would eat breakfast elsewhere.

Disgraceful Experience

Posted Oct 30, 2013 on Hotels
The hotel had building works that commenced at 6.30 am with drilling and demolition works on the floor above ours. When we complained to the front desk, all they would say is that the work should not start before 9.00 am and that they would bring this to the attention of the hotel director. The only wifi was in the lobby and the rooms were equipped only with ethernet cables. The sink was slow to drain and the shower head was filled with limescale such that it sprayed everywhere. Sadly, we had prepaid and so there was no ability to receive any refund for poor service and disturbance.
