Right on the sea frontPosted Dec 22, 2015
Pros: Very slick operation with fabulous staff who really care. Absolutely spotless with a wonderful atmosphere.
Cons: I don't really think it could be improved. Perhaps the gift shop could play more of a part in the proceedings.
Location: Lots to see in the old town but within strolling distance of the newer and busier part. Lots of good restaurants to cater for all tastes and pockets.
In the old part of Funchal which is full of charm character and is full of activity. Definitely the best place to be.

Lovely hotel in a wonderful locationPosted Nov 12, 2015
Location: All good as said already
The location was wonderful with lovely flat walks along the promenade. Restaurants were really close and very good. If we return to Madeira we shall definitely stay at this hotel. It was spotlessly clean and the staff very good.

Cannot wait to return.Posted Nov 7, 2015 on Hotels
The food at breakast was very good with wide choice and plentiful. All the staff in the hotel were delightful, charming and friendly. The hotel is superbly located but do ask for a sea or ocean view to watch the cruise liners enter and leave the port. The fridge is a bonus.

Direkt an Altstadt, Restaurants, StrandpromenadePosted Nov 4, 2015
Pros: Lage, Lage, Lage

Lovely hotel near old town and next to seaPosted Oct 31, 2015
Pros: Staff very friendly. Room, bed, quilt and pillows all comfortable. Facilities excellent.
Location: . Plenty of restaurants on the doorstep. Recommend set meal at the Fort for special dinner. Also close to cable car
This a fab hotel. We had studio which had a hob and fridge. Most rooms are facing the sea although Our room was at the side with view of public square. Good if you like people watching as we do. Could also sit in bed and see the sea and the cruise ships coming in. Breakfast in restaurant which had plenty of choice. bar area comfortAble with a section with TV and library of books to borrow. Pool area with plenty of loungers. Pool bracing with helped my sprain ankle! Towels for loungers provided in room. Also dressing gowns. Hotel has spa which we didn't try. We went on a boat trip on replica Santa Maria which was good and saw plenty of dolphins. Also went on Levada walk (25 waterfalls). if you are walking take walking boots or stout shoes, you do need them and a walking pole if you have one, although some were provided. Took cable car to Monte and visited the Tropical gardens which were fabulous. Tobaggon run down to Funchal closed on Sunday so didn't experience that. Weather the last week of October was 22 degrees and just a little cooler ar night. Most sun in morning and cloud bubbled up in afternoon. had rain 1 day..it's heavy but not for too long. It can be windy. There are no beaches in Maderia. It is a beautiful island and I would go back

Pros: The staff, the calm atmosphere, the two pools
Cons: The food for the evening meal became rather boring after a few times
Location: Excellent location on the promenade
Lovely hotel with a charming staff. The only thing we did not like was the position of our room overlooking public ground where local men gathered every day to play cards and shout at one another. We could not sit at peace on our balcony

Great hotel with Excellent staffPosted Oct 21, 2015
Pros: Its peaceful
Location: More good restuarants within walking distance than you can eat at.
Hotel Porto Santa Maria is quite simply the place to go and unwind. From the moment they arrange your cab from the airport, to the small details about your stay that they never forget, you know you are in the hands of a team who know how to make your stay special. The hotel knows its audience well - and typically they aim for a more "mature" clientele. so no children splashing in the pool!
