Hipster Paradise

Posted Aug 14, 2016
Pros: LOCATION
Cons: Maybe spend a little of the decorating budget on quieter A/C units?
To say this place is trendy would be an understatement. And I'm not complaining, either -- I loved the funky garage sale artwork and colorful retro object-filled lobby, the "brat" and "curd" pillows and red plaid bolsters on the beds, and the trio of shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the shower with such tasty names I didn't know if I should drink them or clean myself with them. Maybe the cloth bag holding the extra toilet paper roll was a bit over the top, but all in all it was quite charming. And the location -- just a block off of State Street and a few blocks from the lake and the lovely Memorial Union Terrace -- that was very nice, too. What wasn't nice was the air conditioning unit that loudly kicked in every five minutes to keep our room reasonably comfortable on a very warm and humid Wisconsin night. Two of the worst night's sleep in a hotel ever. But, hey -- we were in Madison, eating great food, drinking good beer, listening to fun bands at the Union, and could be back in the room in a few minutes - it was all good. And if the Concourse is booked, I'd stay here again, no problem!!

Dear Sue, We are grateful for your compliments regarding our unique, collegiate décor and are delighted to know you loved the Malin & Goetz provided in your guest room. With delicious cuisine, refreshing beer and time at the Memorial Union Terrace, it sounds as though you had a true Madison experience and we are glad to hear it. However, we apologize for any inconvenience that our air conditioner caused you and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to build upon this experience in the future. Sincerely, Roger Life General Manager

Perfect location on campus

Posted Aug 6, 2016
Graduate Madison is located just steps from State Street on the UW campus. Restaurants, shopping, and most campus locations are an easy walk. The room was convenient, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Although the prices were high, the ground floor cafe was good for breakfast. We also tried the rooftop restaurant which had great food and a view of the city.

Dear Linda, From our central location in relation to the campus and the city’s greatest attractions to the delicious dishes at The Madison Blind and Portage Pi, it sounds like you had a remarkable experience in Madison. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Bad remodel of old flop house. Parking garage is too small for a Prius. Corridors are extremely narrow. Elevator is tiny and old. Rooms are really Small. Showers are so tiny, you bump your elbows on the wall washing your hair. Water pressure was really really bad. Towels and wash cloths were not changed out once during a 3 night stay. 7th floor roof top bar was nice, but wait staff was terrible. I'm not a hotel snob, but will NEVER stay here again.

Overall an Amazing Stay in Madison

Posted Jul 15, 2016
The old adage, "You can't judge a book by its cover" was certainly the case with our visit at the Graduate Madison. We arrived at the Graduate and before checking in decided to try parking in the underground parking garage. Bad choice! The very cramped parking in our opinion is designed for compact cars, plus we couldn't find a parking place. Had to basically back out of the parking garage. We pulled into the loading zone and entered the hotel. Upon entering the hotel we were greeted by college/cabin motif represented in the photos advertising the Graduate. Superb idea! The two young men behind the front desk definitely did not match the friendly decor of the hotel. With a little prodding we discovered there might be some on street parking or we could use a public parking garage a few blocks away. With some more prodding we were actually able to get directions on how to get to the public parking garage. We brought our luggage up to the floor to our room and opened the door. Our impression of The Graduate immediately changed for the better. We had just stepped back in time to the 1940's and our college days. Beautifully decorated in badger colors and meticulously clean. We now knew we had made the right choice to stay in this unique hotel. The location of the hotel allowed us to feel the excitement and energy of UW. Upon checkout we were greeted by a very personable and helpful Ricardo.
