Nice design but just OK

Posted Dec 29, 2015
Pros: The design is great. Kitchenette very nice. Great Aveda soaps. Great food/drinks stocked in room (for sale, reasonable prices).
Cons: Showers need to work better. Bed was too soft/sunken. Could not open window. No sheer curtains on our window (only blackout).
Location: I did not explore nearby but it was near my destination so that we good.
Design is great. Check-in was easy and smooth. Staff was nice. Bed was uncomfortable for us -- too soft and sunken in. The big problem in our room was the shower. In the morning we found we could not regulate the temperature, which was WAY too hot. When we called the front desk they said this was a "common problem" that "happens a lot" but there is a "trick" to getting it to work. Unfortunately, that person did not know the trick, and there were no other available rooms for us to shower in. They said they would find someone who knew the trick and send them up. The trick was to wrap a towel around the knob, so you could turn it really hard it without hurting your hand (LOL). I'm very good with mechanical things and I had already tried that (without the towel) and I doubted it was going to move. In the end we all agreed that it was actually broken and was not going to move (probably from the trick being applied so many times). So all in all it was an "OK" stay, but I probably won't be back unless I hear they have upgraded the showers. Suggestions to management: Maintain or replace all the shower units, AND teach the trick to the whole staff, AND post a sign explaining the trick in every room.

Not a dog hotel

Posted Dec 1, 2015
Pros: The shower
Cons: Read the review for the details
Location: Very poor location especially if you have a dog and there's really nothing around convenient in terms of food or shopping
They are positioned as a dog friendly hotel and beyond the fact that they allow dogs and ask you for a very high charge for them there's absolutely zero green space to take your dog to the bathroom you have to walk through the neighborhood to find places they are positioned as a dog friendly hotel and beyond the fact that they allow dogs and ask you for a very high charge for them there's absolutely zero green space to take your dog to the bathroom you have to walk through the neighborhood to find places. The hotel itself is not in a great location there's nothing really that close by the parking is weird the rooms are fine they have concrete floors which is why I think the call it a dog hotel. The shower was great but other than that the hotel itself was very mediocre. The worst part of the room was that there was really no privacy especially in the bathroom there is a hole in the wall so that the light shines all throughout the room we can hear your buddy in there and showering and so if one person wakes up earlier than the other forget about it you hear everything. The staff just seems like they're going to the motions in general there is nothing remarkable in terms of the hotel itself or the service. We did order food to bring back to her room and the food itself was very good so I would give the restaurant three stars at least Other than that we won't be staying here again. We need to find a hotel in Madison for regular trips throughout the year but this one is

Great Hotel!

Posted Nov 9, 2015
Location: Close to UW Madison Campus. Many restaurants and coffee cafes within walking distance.
My girlfriends and I had a wonderful stay and experience at Hotel Red. It was clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. We loved the option of using their shuttle service, and used it one day to shop on State Street. We would definitely stay there again next time we are in Madison!

Lives up to the billing.

Fantastic and actually unique place. You see a lot of things called 'boutique' which turn out to be average. This place has real ambiance. Exposed concrete, high ceilings, interesting artwork. Rooms are huge. Bathroom space is fantastic. The bar/restaurant is an extension of the 'lobby' and this place is also very very well done. It completely fits the area and the people in Wisconsin that I met are very nice. Drive around in the city of Madison and you will enjoy the courtesy.

HotelRed

Posted Oct 3, 2015
Pros: Rooms are large and clean. Shower faucet is great.
Located across the street from the U of Wisconsin football stadium. HotelRed has an ultra modern décor. Rooms are large. The décor is concrete, concrete walls, finished concrete floors, chrome, clean lines, grey and red color palate. The doors are sliding barn doors to the inner rooms. The bathroom shower has a multi- head faucet with great water pressure. If you like modern, clean lines, HotelRed is your pick. You will be disappointed if you like warm wood décor, pastel plate, carpeting and warm and fuzzy.

Nice, loft-style boutique hotel.

Great, modern, loft-style hotel. Restaurant food was excellent - more people should eat there. All staff members were great. Location was the only drawback for a single traveller. It was quite a walk - or drive/park to get to the heart of the downtown strip. Perfect for campus visits and sporting events - but if looking for downtown action, too far out of the loop. (There are a few stores & restaurants close, including a Trader Joes. Otherwise 1+ mile walk to city center.)
