Location, location, location

Pros: Staff made us feel very welcome and that goes a long way. The physical property is updated, cute and comfortable but not extravagant.
Cons: Hallways are a bit dark. Lights come on with motion, but still dim. Bunk beds were comfortable but top one had some loud squeaking when kids climb in.
Location: Plaza del Carmen itself is a bit gritty. Its not Plaza Mayor. Having said that, Madrid is a major city and regions overlap. Location great for us.
Quite happy with the proximity to everything from the Gran Via to Puerta del Sol to Plaza Mayor. The Sol Metro stop is very close, with access by elevator from the plaza or through El Corte Ingles department store nearby. Walking distance to the Prado, continuing on to Reina Sofia before Metro-ing back. It was a little longer trip to Palacio Real but very manageable. I will admit we took a cab there due to weather and the fact that the Opera Metro station leaves you with still a bit of a walk to the palace. Even with light rains, we still strolled to Cava Baja, Mercado San Miguel, Chocolateria San Gines for meals (yes, churros con chocolate qualifies as a meal when on vacation) without any difficulties. Staff were great! They were extremely helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Miriam at the front desk who was an absolute gem on the swing shift, helping with all kinds of questions and some printing. The quadruple room had ample space and bunk beds which the kids loved! We opted to prepay for breakfast which is rare for us, but was so inexpensive, we felt we could not go wrong. It turned out to be a good decision for a few reasons: 1) Its more a meal of necessity in Spain and its a rush in most cafes, 2) a hot breakfast before venturing out in the rain buoys kids' (and wives') spirits immensely, 3) the fare was quite good (fresh fruit, cheese, jamon, eggs, bacon/sausage, grilled chicken, tortilla espanola, and Nespresso-brewed espresso).

Great hotel and location

Pros: #1 Location #2 attention, clean, breakfast
Cons: Sound Isolation
Location: Great location - 2 blocks from "Puerta del Sol" Also: -walking distance from "metro", Madrid center shopping, theater, and culture

Great location but that was about it.

The room was tiny, it was impossible to maintain a comfortable temperature, the bed was very uncomfortable, the bed was also very noisy because of the broken slats they had incorrectly fixed, the bathroom offered no privacy, and the shower jets they applaud, sprayed all over the bathroom so they couldnt be used. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to other travelers.

Close to city but terrible room

Terrible room! The a/c didnt work, the tv was broken. We demand for a room change and the staff didnt do the change after 3 days after a big argue

Big bed, small room

The location is perfect and the hotel has been designed with skill. However, the bedrooms are small and a large double bed leaves little room for people.
