good location for what we required

Posted Jul 22, 2017
Pros: had a reasonable pool and good gym which is a big plus for us. also located by a great park.
Cons: gym opening earlier on weekends. umbrellas by the pool.
the hotel was perfect for what we wanted albeit a little old fashioned. One disappointment was the gym did not open until 10.30 on the weekend!!

Grand Old Hotel near Prado

Posted Jul 16, 2017
The Wellington has great old fashioned service and beautiful vintage decor. It's like stepping back in time. The king bed provided the best night's sleep! The pool and pool side bar provided a lovely break from Madrid's afternoon heat. We were then refreshed and ready to walk out for tapas. Definitely would stay again.

Lovely hotel in a great location

Posted Jul 15, 2017
Pros: Rooms, staff, Wellington Club
Cons: Mini bar prices, roons were a little dark, parasols at the pool.
Location: Hotel is right next to Reteiro Park, but also around 20 mins walk from the centre. Taxi rank outside the hotel.
As a couple on a long weekend break we had a very good experience with the Wellington. The reception staff were very helpful and the rooms were of very high quality, with comfortable beds. The pool area was nice although too few sun beds at peak times and no parasols. Curiously, too much of the pool area was taken up with 'luxury' sun beds which appeared to close €300 to lie on, although I was told that this entitled the user to free drinks and snacks - needless to say these were never occupied! Breakfast was good and the `Wellington Club was great to have, offering free drinks (soft and alcoholic) in a lively setting on the 7th floor. Overall, would thouroughly recommend and the only thing that let it down for me was the mini bar, which was rediculously priced (e.g €4.50 for war we, €12 for a measure of spirits (without mixer), €7 for a small bag of M&Ms, €7 for a very small tube of Pringles). Everyone expects to pay a bit more at the mini-bar but who wants to get ripped off - I can't imagine they sell much!

Excellent hotel well positioned

Long established and brilliantly located hotel for exploring the city. Prado and Retiro within easy walking distance, Plaza Mayor an easy half hour stroll. Old fashioned charm and luxury, although restaurant prices a tad expensive.

Five Stars Again & Again

Posted May 31, 2017
Pros: Next to Retiro. Wife always stays here. Meets all her needs. Staff saved us on last day after the surprise taxi strike.
Cons: The Wellington is a very relaxing place to stay. Taxis, food, and service on demand. Fair walk to everywhere. Bring some cash.
Location: A drink in the evening in the Retiro or lounge is tops. Walk to gardens, Prado, Sofia with comfortable shoes. Take taxi to Theaters, Opera, Palace.
Best location and service in Madrid. Restaurants and food wonderful. Comfort & cleanliness supreme. Five Stars.

Pros: The room was huge, quiet and the beds very comfortable, and the air conditioning neither too cold nor too warm
Cons: Not much. A kettle in the room would be a nice addition.
Location: Supurb. The equivalent to Mayfair in London
This was my fourth stay at the Hotel Wellington and I very much look forward to staying there again. The location is perfect for the Prado, Park Retiro and downtown shopping and dining and most places are with in walking distance as Madrid is a fairly compact city. The staff were very attentive of our needs and room service came very promptly. What's not to like?

a perfect stay in beautiful Madrid

Posted Apr 20, 2017 on Hotels
The Wellington was perfect for our purposes. My daughter and I were visiting my granddaughter who is currently studying in Spain. It was close to her flat and close to most of the things we wanted to visit. It is also very near a metro stop when it's too far to walk. An unexpected bonus was a small deck with a little table and chairs. We sat out there several nights and had dinner from items purchased from a nearby grocery store. I guess the Wellington can't take credit for the perfect weather but that surely added to a lovely stay in Madrid.
