Not worth the money

Recently stayed in a Loft Suite here. The room itself was quite dark and dingy, and not terribly clean. Room decor was different from the photos, and the view was of the building next door. The shower ceiling had visible mold, and the carpet in the living room was mysteriously wet which damaged a pair of shoes that we had set down in this spot unknowingly. We received a $25 voucher for in-room dining from Expedia VIP, which ended up being difficult to use. We tried to order several desserts after 10pm, only to find out each time that they had run out. We were able to successfully order some fruit and juice for breakfast with our voucher, however. We tried to have our room changed to a different Loft suite immediately after checking in, but the hotel just apologized and said they were booked. Upon complaining at check out about all these issues we were told there was nothing they could do to compensate us due to our choice of booking through Expedia. Instead our in-room breakfast (which was ~$10 after the voucher) was comped. There are better places to stay in Chicago that cost considerably less. Certainly won't be staying here again.

Cons: Bathrooms are small .
I had a great holiday in Chicago celebrating my 65th Birthday, The staff at your hotel was excellent & very efficient, in every way. Would definetly book the St. James again another time. Thankyou

Nice and Great location

Pros: The room had a differnt feel from an average hotel room. It had a modern home feel.
Cons: Overnight parking is expensive so maybe a waring that it's going to cost $65
Location: Great location! Close to great hotels and the MIle
The James staff were great and the location is ideal for eating and shopping. I would highly recommend the James!

Great location in the middle of magnificent mile

Had a great experience at The James. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms have nice little extras, including a tablet for communicating with the front desk / ordering room service , etc. The only thing that could use an upgrade is the elevator - looks very old and brings the place down a notch! Other than that it was a great stay. Bonus points for a 2pm check-out time!

Bikes

The reason why we chose this hotel was because of the bikes. It was nice to hop on them early in the morning.

Very good hotel and great location

Pros: Location, Service and Room view
Location: All of the chicago's hot and trendy restaurants (located in DT) are at walkable distance from this hotel
We had an overall good stay at James. Great service and location! This might be an one off instance with just us, but our next door guests were getting into loud arguments in the middle of the night and my wife had to call the front desk to see if they can go talk to them or send cops to their room. Anyways it didn't stop and they kept on yelling at each other all through the night. We were a little surprised that we were able to hear all their noise, may be insulation was an issue at James.
