La Maison Rouge has many original features and has been restored in an attractive style. It isn't in the smartest part of town though, so getting out to see the Medina and the rest of Marrakech or find a restaurant means walking some distance over very uneven pavements, being careful to avoid the maniac drivers on the busy narrow streets and in the souks.
There were only two other guests staying during my five day break, and as a result some of the services one would normally expect seemed to be lacking, but it was a welcome escape from the streets, and the roof space was a plus when the sun was shining.
Perhaps it was a mistake to visit in January and expect reasonably warm temperatures, but my room on arrival was very cold, there was no heating in the bathroom, and the open courtyard was really too cold to enjoy dinner in the evening.
However, if I were to visit Marrakech again in Spring or Autumn, I would be happy to stay at La Maison with its pleasant staff, and where as a single traveller I felt safe.
