Clean and comfy

Clean and comfortable hotel. No hot tub though just a swimming pool, that was disappointing after a long drive in the car. Check in could've been better, Todd the first desk clerk completely ignored us for 10 minutes until a younger and more personable desk clerk came up to the desk to help us. Other than that very nice hotel with an excellent breakfast.

From bad to worse

Where do I start? I entered the room and it was freezing, which is typical of hotel rooms. I turned off the air and proceeded to get ready for bed as it was late and I had an early meeting. After traveling, I wanted a hot shower before bed but 15 minutes later I realized the water wasn't going to turn warm much less hot, so I took a cold shower. By then I was freezing so I figured I would turn on the heater for a few minutes. Thirty seconds later, it smelled horrible and the smoke alarm went off. I quickly turned it off, called the front desk, and was asked if the alarm was still going off. It had just stopped and they said ok. Do you want us to send someone up? Did they have to ask? Anyway, I was too exhausted to pursue it so I opted to try to go to bed with covers on to help me get warm. Three hours later I started itching in a small section of my body, it spread and I kept scratching everywhere, half asleep. Somewhere in my mind I realized... Bed bugs!!!! I jumped out of bed, started searching frantically for them. I was never sure but I didn't trust any of the cloth chairs to sit on and wasn't going back to bed so at 4 am I took a shower (this time hot) and sat on a towel to put on my clothes. I didn't even care about the lackluster breakfast, I just wanted to be on my way to my meeting. I told the front desk about my issues so they could check for bedbugs. The receptionist seemed horrified but didn't offer anything but an apology.

It was good but we were disappointed the chocolate chip cookies that were an enticement did not materialise.

Pros: Convenience
Cons: nothing that I know about.
Stay there before. As before, good experience. And, there aren't many choices in Charles City.
