Good location with parking. Close to town's amenit

Posted Jun 28, 2017
One night in double room very poor no outlook and noisy. Breakfast food ok but service poor. 2nd night Sunday family room excellent with lovely view over Market square and quiet. Again breakfast food good but service poor.- they disappear once served you and we had to search for someone to give us toast and another cup of tea! They were friendly enough. Characterful but decor a bit tired.

Good location in town centre

Posted Jun 4, 2017
Pros: The room was clean the bed was comfy and its location was good.
Cons: Cleanliness and redecoration of the entrance and stairs up to the rooms. Breakfast definitely needs improvement.
Location: Close to Matlock Bath and Bakewell, plenty to do and see in the area.
The hotel is run down and in need of refurbishment. Its saving grace was the room was comfy and clean and the cleaning lady looked after us well. Breakfast was dire the worst we have had ever, the full English everything went through the deep fat fryer apart from the egg. The scrambled egg and salmon was plentiful but the eggs were hard bobbly bits with the salmon mixed in (Not nice) on the last morning the beans were served cold and the two pieces of toast arrived on a plate uncut, very basic and frankly off putting for the money charged.

Quirky old inn

Posted May 18, 2017
Location: Very central position in Wirksworth near an excellent bus service. Small independent cinema and heritage railway nearby.
Stayed one night in this old coaching inn with lots of character. Our room was very clean and comfortable with an excellent shower. Staff were friendly and breakfast very good.

Close to The Peak National Park

Posted May 18, 2017
Pros: Quiet.
Cons: Wifi did not work in the bedroom. Water pump in bathroom was very noisy.
Location: Derwent Valley attractions. The Peak National Park.
This hotel is NOT in Matlock but in the village of Wirksworth

Our impression on arrival was not of warmth. A non-committal reception followed by the discovery that the bedroom was unheated and there was no hot water. The dining room was unheated. However the bedroom problems were quickly put right during dinner and it then became very comfortable! A good shower and plenty of good towels. Otherwise the standard was not as good as we hoped for compared with private B&Bs. A pity for a very interesting building where the owners have tried hard in decorating and providing a comfortable room.

Needed a place to stay for a function close by. Serviceable room on top of a pub. Issue with hot water was solved as soon as reported. Overall great for our needs.

Friendly hotel in village centre

Posted Feb 27, 2017
Pros: Friendly staff. Great selection of beers. Good evening meal. Clean. Great room - well laid out.
Cons: Could do with redecorating. Breakfast was not that good.
Location: Central location in the village. Ideal location for visiting the Peak District and local towns.
From the outside a little worn but inside a very friendly hotel. Fixtures and fittings are all quite old and the place could do with a little redecoration but it was very clean. Staff were welcoming. The room was very comfortable and well laid out. It is noisy as it is set right on a junction and the 'racer brigade' meant it suffered from road noise until about midnight. But once asleep a super nights sleep. Evening meal was superb but breakfast was not so good - bacon was fatty and egg greasy. Overall it is a friendly hotel that's a little worn but value for money.

Stayed here before excellent staff that make feel genuinely welcome and will address any problem you may have immediately. Great breakfast (really) evening meal was also good value. Walk in shower which was large but it compromised the rest of the bath room facilities. Overall this is a really nice hotel and fabulous location/village to explore the area or just unwind.
