Nice hotel. I really like the view of the mountain

Posted Apr 25, 2016
Pros: The surrounding is very nice and relaxing.
Cons: Housekeeping should check if there are garbage. They will not check unless you call.
Location: The location is pretty okay as there is nearby supermarket.
This is a great place for family with kids. The pool is okay, the room is windy and cozy. Overall I liek teh place especially the vacation club where people can stay while waiting for flight. What I don't like is that my kids did not enjoy the beach as the current is too strong in that area.

A large four building complex with 192 condos. Older but in decent condition and relatively clean. Well located to shops and just around the corner from McDonalds which can be important if you are on a tight food budget. Decent beach but crowded. Our condo was a clean one bedroom, two bath unit. They only clean and replace towels and consumables once a week if you stay a while. Our unit was first floor with a lousy view of the parking lot with our bedroom patio over the entrance to the parking garage. One of the bathroom doors was broken and would not close so I reported it to the desk and a crew was on it in about two hours. This was in the evening so fast response. There are 32 one bedroom units for rent but 74 two bedroom condos available so the latter may give the possibility of better views.

This is a condo-style hotel and the layout of the 2 bedroom unit was well planned. Unfortunately, all the units do not come with air-conditioning, although they offer additional fans. Being there in winter was a big plus, as the evenings were very cool and pleasant but I would not like to stay there in the summer. Overall, it was good value !

Sands of Kahana January 2016

Posted Jan 17, 2016 on Hotels
We were owners at the Sands of Kahana for approximately 15 years. Even though to room location changed from year to year, we always had ocean facing or good ocean view. This year when we check in (now non-owners) the front desk staff made it clear that we could not get as good a location as we were used to because we had booked through Hotels.com. They stuck us in a street side room with no ocean view overlooking the maintenance yard and all the noise of garbage pick up and maintenance activities. We are not faulting Hotels.com for the attitude of the Sands of Kahana staff. But, Hotels.com needs to be aware as they should not want others expecting a good experience to be treated as badly.

Hello, Ronald. Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to learn of your experience. As former owners, you are probably aware that we do not guarantee specific room types. Rooms are assigned at check-in, and our ability to place you in a coveted ocean-facing guest unit is based on availability and not determined by your booking site. Please accept our apology if you were relayed this erroneous information. Thank you for returning to Sands of Kahana. We hope you will give us another opportunity to make a more favorable impression.

Fantastic Views

Posted Jan 5, 2016
Pros: We liked the location and the room amenities.
Cons: Maybe the fans could run a bit stronger. We found it warn at times, especially at night.
Location: It is located right on the beach. There is a great sushi place across the street as well as a small grocery store.
My husband and I and our two boys (ages 20 and 15) stayed at the Sands for 10 nights. We had a very pleasant experience overall. We had a wonderful ocean view and even saw rainbows a couple of times.

We did not enjoy our stay at all. The bed were so uncomfortable we could not sleep well the whole four nights. If you take side makes so much noice and not good support for the back. The first day we woke up and see a big cockroach in the master bedroom. We did not enjoy our stay at all our stay At Sands of Kahana.we will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Sadly Old and Tired

Posted Jan 1, 2016
We stayed here 10 years ago and have fond memories. But we won't stay here again. Positives first: - very nice staff, seems to work very hard - this location is excellent, long walk or very short drives to best beaches in the world - rooms are MASSIVE and some have excellent views, a great configuration for extended stays OK, so now for the not-so-good: - ants, in the kitchen, yuck - pigeons everywhere and the poop on the huge lanai so bad we didn't use it - lots of little broken things in the rooms - old carpet, old furniture, old towels, old bedding, etc. - lots of sickly looking plants - just run down and tired. We stayed our first week at Marriott Ocean Club on Kaanapali Beach so the comparison was unusually stark I wish the owners would put some money into this place. Sad really.

Went to Maui for 10 days, spent 7 days at a major resort in a time share unit. We stayed at Sands of Kahana for the final nights of our trip. The place worked out great. It is a little dated, but the space, location and amenities were really good. This place is located about 10 minutes past Lahina and 5 minutes past Kaanapali. All in all a real good place for your dollar. No A/C in the units, but good trade winds to keep the place cool.

Great Stay, BUT.... sometimes AC may be important

Posted Sep 21, 2015 on Hotels
Great stay at "Sands Of Kahana" All thumbs up except one thing. Partly my fault for not checking on this amenity, but it seems that many places in Maui rely on the "Trade Winds" instead of air conditioning. This would be fine if not for the fact that there were several night that were hot and humid enough that a ceiling fan and the trade winds were not enough for me. One might say I was the exception, but many of the other guests related to me that they not so excited at trying to sleep on top of the sheets with the fan on full and still being hot and sweaty.. I'm sure that this is not a problem for most of the year, but during the hotter summer months you may want to take AC availability into consideration.
