Fantastic Views

Posted Jan 5, 2016
Pros: We liked the location and the room amenities.
Cons: Maybe the fans could run a bit stronger. We found it warn at times, especially at night.
Location: It is located right on the beach. There is a great sushi place across the street as well as a small grocery store.
My husband and I and our two boys (ages 20 and 15) stayed at the Sands for 10 nights. We had a very pleasant experience overall. We had a wonderful ocean view and even saw rainbows a couple of times.

Sadly Old and Tired

Posted Jan 1, 2016
We stayed here 10 years ago and have fond memories. But we won't stay here again. Positives first: - very nice staff, seems to work very hard - this location is excellent, long walk or very short drives to best beaches in the world - rooms are MASSIVE and some have excellent views, a great configuration for extended stays OK, so now for the not-so-good: - ants, in the kitchen, yuck - pigeons everywhere and the poop on the huge lanai so bad we didn't use it - lots of little broken things in the rooms - old carpet, old furniture, old towels, old bedding, etc. - lots of sickly looking plants - just run down and tired. We stayed our first week at Marriott Ocean Club on Kaanapali Beach so the comparison was unusually stark I wish the owners would put some money into this place. Sad really.

Went to Maui for 10 days, spent 7 days at a major resort in a time share unit. We stayed at Sands of Kahana for the final nights of our trip. The place worked out great. It is a little dated, but the space, location and amenities were really good. This place is located about 10 minutes past Lahina and 5 minutes past Kaanapali. All in all a real good place for your dollar. No A/C in the units, but good trade winds to keep the place cool.

Great Stay, BUT.... sometimes AC may be important

Posted Sep 21, 2015 on Hotels
Great stay at "Sands Of Kahana" All thumbs up except one thing. Partly my fault for not checking on this amenity, but it seems that many places in Maui rely on the "Trade Winds" instead of air conditioning. This would be fine if not for the fact that there were several night that were hot and humid enough that a ceiling fan and the trade winds were not enough for me. One might say I was the exception, but many of the other guests related to me that they not so excited at trying to sleep on top of the sheets with the fan on full and still being hot and sweaty.. I'm sure that this is not a problem for most of the year, but during the hotter summer months you may want to take AC availability into consideration.

Uncomfortably warm with no A/C

Thank you for your visit and feedback, Robert. We are among many Maui resorts that do not have central air conditioning. We rely on the temperate climate and trade winds as a cooling mechanism, and are sorry they were not sufficient to keep you comfortable.

Stuck in the 90's

Posted May 28, 2015
Pros: Rooms were big and noisy bring ear plugs!
Cons: Everything Mentioned Start with the Manegment there.
Location: Location was good but no one ate or drank there because it was too expensive and lousy! So we went anyplace else.
The Hotel was really unkept it didnt feel like a Vacation destination its a timeshare I saw back in the late 90's when it turned into the timeshare and has not changed at all everything is about the same -old. The walls are paper thin I herd a lady sneeze and another said bless you like it was in the next room! It is large but loud everyplace So we slept on the couch or we didnt sleep... Do not eat at the Restaurant its rediculissly over priced Painters and staff drink there in their work cloths felt like a crap hole. tiny portions LOTS OF RATS! So we hung out at KIMOS in town Front Desk Staff is Rood! Needs to be replaced Also you pay for everything extra!

Hi, Jack. Thank you for your visit and feedback. We regret we did not meet your expectations. Sands of Kahana has made numerous recent upgrades, including comprehensive renovations to our guest units and resort amenities. It is disappointing our modern decor, new fitness center, newly heated pool and repaved tennis courts did not make a more favorable impression. Rodents are rarely sighted on property owing to an aggressive control program that includes the placement of baits and traps. As you can probably imagine then, we were concerned to read your comment and were wondering where you saw this unusual influx of activity. Any assistance you can provide would greatly aid in their eradication and be much appreciated. Our onsite restaurant is managed by a third-party company that sets the prices and policies. We are sorry if you were offended by the sight of employees relaxing there after work and hope it will not influence your decision to stay at another resort the next time you’re on Maui. We appreciate your visit and would certainly value the opportunity to serve you again.

The hotel is not in great shape and the staff are very rude. The worst customer service ever. I will never stay there again.

Hello, Jose. Thank you for your visit and feedback. We are terribly disappointed to read your review. Please accept our sincere apology if our resort staff was anything less than completely cordial, helpful and welcoming. The scenario you describe falls well short of our expectations for Aloha spirit, and we will be sure to pass along your comments to upper management.

Close to beach nice view

Posted May 14, 2015
Pros: The View was great and the condo was spacious for 4 people.
Cons: Windows need to be washed, had bird droppings. Maybe add some floor fans to the place.
Location: Location was a little out of the way for things to do, but the drive is so pretty we didn't mind. Aquarium, shopping, luai..
The Condo was in GREAT condition. there is no air conditioner, but we came in the time of year it wasn't too hot or humid. The restaurant was so so.. The soda was horrible. Don't get soda there. The food was pretty good. The pool was nice to look at but didn't go in. The gym was nice. no remote for the TV's . One gym has air, which really didn't cool the place down and the other no air at all. The equipment was nice though, if you bring your own reading material. All in all we would definitely be back to this spot !!!

Sands of Kahana (Maui)

Posted Apr 18, 2015
Wonderful hotel. We had views to die for, the ocean, the beautiful beach, the gardens, the mountains, and both islands(Molokai and Lanai). Not to mention the largest suute we ever stayed in. A true Hawaiian feel. Spacious living room, dining room, kitchen, two full baths, laundryroom (yes full washer and dryer right in the suite), walk in closets and a very large Lanai. Beautifully decorated and fully stocked. It was heaven. Hotel situated near restaurants and shops. The beach was incredible - sea turtles visited daily, whales swam further off shore - quite a show! And you could snorkel right there too. Lush gardens with morning walking tours, two pools, volkwyball, barbaque areas all around the grounds (made for great fresh caught fish fries)! a great reastaurant, putting green, tennis courts....Sands of Kahana had it all! We truly enjoyed our stay there.
