Nice room, updates needed.Posted Sep 1, 2015
We got a wonderful ocean view suite, but the furniture and room needs a facelift. Comfortable but not luxurious. Beautiful grounds and very nice staff...

Good hotel with problemsPosted Aug 30, 2015
Pros: The room, the location, the bartender at the 8th floor happy hour bar. He's the man.
Cons: Enforce pool area rules, more rum in the rum drinks, better quality food.
Location: Beach is great. Shopping area to the south has good restaurants and bars. We went to Leilani grill twice. Sorry if the spelling is wrong :(
This is a nice resort, and has one of the best locations on the island. The room was great, and most of the staff was fantastic. Despite that, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. There are some high level policy mistakes the management makes that made it pretty un-fun. The restaurants and bars are just OK. Someone had a spreadsheet somewhere that said they could get away with so many servers at a minimum, use the cheapest ingredients (I am pretty sure they substituted water for rum at one point), and jack up the price. The spreadsheet said we would stay at the resort as long as they weren't worse than that, and it turns out they were right. We were slow to recognize it. There are a limited number of shaded spots near the pool, and even though 100% were claimed by people's stuff, maybe 10% were actually occupied. The pool staff didn't enforce their policy (as per the signs) to make sure the spots are actively used. We found a little shaded hut a bit farther away, but then were shooed away because it was a rental. (The signs advertising this had been removed.) The rooms and the staff were great, though. So if you stay here, don't ruin the experience with the restaurants and bars (it only encourages the spreadsheet people). There is a sidewalk along the beach that will take you to the clump of hotels and shops just to the south. I recommend you make use of it.

Great hotel, great pools, easy access to beachPosted Aug 29, 2015
Pros: Nice, upscale hotel, beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff, great pools, easy access to beach, and a Starbucks in the lobby!
Cons: Price of food in the restaurants, as well as at the pool side bars, was too expensive. Limited selection of menu items for kids.
Location: Whalers Village is 5 minutes away, the town of Lahaina a 10 minute drive, aquarium in Wailuku a 20 minute drive, and Kihea and Kahului 45 minute drive
The Sheraton Maui is one of the nicer hotels right on Kaanapali beach. The beach is wide and beautiful but the sand gets very hot during the day, so sandals or beach shoes are a necessity to get to the water. The surf can be quite rough as it breaks on to shore, I would not recommend it for non-swimmers or little kids. Snorkeling right off of shore we saw green sea turtles and tropical fish daily. However, do not snorkel or swim past Black Rock, as there are strong rip tides. The hotel posts daily warnings regarding the ocean conditions but many people seem to ignore these posts. Likewise, diving or jumping off of Black Rock is not recommended, but many people continue to do so, sometimes with grave consequences. There are also swimming pools connected by a lazy river that meanders through the hotel grounds. We spent most of our time playing in the surf, snorkeling near shore, and swimming in the lazy river. Food is very expensive at the hotel, so we opted to buy drinks and ready to eat food at Safeway in Lahaina. The bar fridge in the room was big enough to store our food and drinks. We were pleasantly surprised to find a Starbucks located in the lobby, but it is only opened in the mornings. You can also book a variety of tours at the information desks in the lobby, which was very convenient. However, the weather was very hot and humid, so sight seeing was difficult when we had to walk anywhere. Overall, we had a wonderful time staying at the Sheraton Maui Resort!

Beautiful view.Posted Aug 27, 2015
Pros: The view. The complete atmosphere. Torches lit everyone on property, all evening.
Cons: Towels on pool chairs are removed if left for a half hour, making it difficult to keep your seat if you go for a swim or lunch.
Location: Great location. Other dining options right along the beach. Lahaina very hereby.
Oceanfront rooms have fantastic view of beach and pools. Rooms are comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful. True Hawaiin experience.
