Luxury in a perfect location

Posted Oct 14, 2017
Pros: Great staff and an excellent location, close to both Hyde Park Corner and Green Part Underground stations
Cons: A chest of drawers or even a few at the bottom of the wardrobe. The room was also on the small side but I guess this is inevitable in a city hotel
Location: Really close to Hyde Park, South Kensington and Knightsbridge and just a short walk to Shepherd Market and Covent Garden
This was a 2 day stay - if only it could have been longer! The staff were absolutely charming and our room, although a little small, was beautifully designed and extremely comfortable. I would have liked a few drawers for my clothes but otherwise have no complaints whatsoever.

Boutique hotel where they welcome you by name.

Posted Oct 3, 2017
Pros: As stated above.
Cons: The hotel is well managed and it seems to be doing fine.
Staff is personable and remembers your name and preferences. Has a homelike feel in the center of a big busy city.

Your own apartment in London

Posted Aug 9, 2017
I have stayed a number of times at the Athanaeum on business trips to London. I have always been pleased with their hotel rooms. The hotel is well located and the staff top notch. This year I took my while family on an extended train trip through Great Britain and needed accommodations for five days in London. The Apartments at the Athanaeum turned out to be a perfect solution. We had an entire floor of a renovated town house to ourselves. Well worth it.

Very Disappointed

Posted Jul 3, 2017
Pros: Location & lobby area
Cons: Room decoration, service level
Location: Great location with easy walking distance of many major sites to include Hyde Park, Harrods, Trafalgar Sq etc
We have stayed in the Mayfair area before as we like the location and this was a major consideration in the selection of the Athenaeum. We have also been lucky enough to have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels and I'm afraid, the Athenaeum simply wasn't a 5 star hotel for us...We stayed in a room with a park view and the view was ok (the window cill is quite high). The room was supposed to have a king size bed but in our view it wasn't. The room was also decorated and finished in a relatively basic way and not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The bathroom was also very small and again, disappointing. The hotel bar is very small and on one occasion we had struggled for a table as so many seats were taken for people having afternoon tea. We ate in Galvins restaurant and whilst the food was good, the service was not. Galvin's were running some form of celebratory tasting menu with accompanying glass of champagne. Upon us being seated we were asked if we'd like a complementary glass of champagne which naturally we accepted! However, when it arrived and we decided to question the waiter further, he explained that he'd assumed we were dining on the taster menu deal. We explained that we weren't and that we wished to dine from the a la carte, which we did. However, we were then charged £15 per glass of champagne that we never asked for! All in all, a 4 star hotel & experience at best and location aside, we were very disappointed.

Dear Mark, I was very sadden to read that your experience was not up to our usual high standard. I have already shared your feedback with the team who are taking immediate action with regards to the service issues that you encountered. We do have a variety of room sizes and categories which I would be happy to show you on your next visit. I am certain I will be able to arrange one that suits your requirements and expectations. I do hope I have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. With renewed apologies, Wayne Kerrin Hotel Manager

Cooling System

Posted Jun 21, 2017
Pros: Nice entrance , but why is Ladies restroom upstairs??
Cons: High Tea extend to 5:00pm. Seated at restaurant at 4:15pm but was told no longer serving HT
Location: Wonderful, close to Green Park and Buckingham Palace and most attractions. Used London Pass and Oyster Card for sightseeing and touring London
Guess London is never so warm, cooling system ineffecient

Dear Irene, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with me. I am sorry for the misunderstanding with our afternoon tea times. Weekdays we serve afternoon tea from 12:30 until 16:00 and on the weekends from 12:30 until 17:30. I have addressed this with the team as perhaps we could have explained this a bit better to you when you enquired. I am delighted you made use of our great location with so many attractions on our doorstep. I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind regards, Wayne Kerrin Hotel Manager

Great hotel close to everwhere, chic location

Posted May 3, 2017
Couple of times we stayed in this hotel. Lovely atmosphere, perfect location, walking distance to Piccadily, Marble Arch and shopping district. Most of the staff are kind. Relation with the guest is a very important issue, covers most of the negative things in tourism business. The only thing I could suggest some of your staff may learn how to smile. Gentleman standing in front of the entrance is always friendly, kind and polite.
